Chris and I have decided that next summer we're going to drive to Mongolia as part of the Mongol Rally 2008. Think Gumball Rally but with some twists... It has to be done in a car with an engine no bigger than 1.0L and that cost no more than £1000. Basically a crap car that is more than likely not to make it.
The trip is around 10,000 miles and will probably take around 30 days, depending on numbers of missing wheels, breakdowns, crashes and arrests. It's all done in aid of charity with us needing to raise £1000 for charites such as Hope and Homes for Children (helping orphaned children) and Mercy Corps Mongolia.
Shortly we will be putting up a website displaying all the latest news and information on the progress of the fund raising. We've got a few cool ideas on how to raise the cash required so keep watching this space.
Currently our route looks to be taking us through France, Germany, Czech Repulblic, Poland, Ukraine, Russia, Kazakstan and finally into Mongolia. I'm sure this will change lots with Visa and time issues along the way but thats the plan for now!
*News Flash* We've just purchased our little beasty this minute on Ebay. It's a beautiful 94 L reg White Nissan Micra 1.0l that has done 124,000 miles. Costing a measly £320! Apparantly it's "Very reliable".....
The 300 cars on the rally launch next July from Hyde Park, London. It'd be great to see as many people there as poss, oh and our team name is 'The Angry Pirates' so naturally we'll be dressed as pirates, angry will come sometime later at a border crossing.
Keep checking out our website for updates and pics.
Take it easy all and thanks for reading!
