5/22 10:41am EST: Rebecca and Chris got to sit down together this week in New York and discuss the plans to move forward. We all understand and continue to be in complete agreement about the next steps to be taken. We do not intend to stop looking for Craig until he is found and brought home. When, in the coming days, we have confirmation of additional efforts and information, we will try to let everyone know. We may not have new information to share for several days at a time, but we will try to let everyone know when we do. Thank you for your continued patience and understanding. Thanks, too, to the wonderful friends here in the city with whom I have met, from whom I have heard, whose kindness is as sustaining to me now as it always was to Craig and I. We are really blessed.

5/15 11:32am EST: The Canyons, an expert mountaineering team based in Tokyo, was unable to find or recover Craig from the area where he has fallen, and as of this morning, all personnel involved in Craig's search, including his brother Chris, have left the island of Kuchino-erabu-shima. Rebecca, in consultation with 1SRG, who have gone over their search in conference together, has been able to confirm that the original understanding they have of what befell Craig remains the strongest and surest hypothesis, and they were able to give additional detailed explanation of why it is not very surprising that Craig himself has not been found. They will put the family in contact with individuals who may have the exact expertise they deem necessary to Craig's recovery, and we will pursue that possibility. The congressional delegation from Wyoming has continued to pursue additional avenues for help, and continues to express their commitment to assisting the family in any further private efforts undertaken to bring Craig home. We remain uncertain what we can do and in what time frame. We miss Craig very, very much and will not stop until we have done any and everything possible to help him come back to us.

5/13 2:31pm EST: Rebecca's meetings with the Wyoming Congressional delegation yesterday went well. Senator Barrasso, Congresswoman Lummis, and the office of Senator Enzi all continue to be very sympathetic and supportive, and have communicated their continuing commitment to working together and with the consulate and Embassy in Japan to ensure that Craig comes home. They are helping our family to pursue all possible options, and we are so, so grateful. It does appear that the continued interest all of Craig's family and friends have shown to their congressional delegations has been very helpful, as well, and we thank you for that outpouring of concern. Please note - this is not a call for continued action at the moment, merely a confirmation that everyone's help has made a difference.
Thanks to the Fund to Find Craig Arnold, we have been able to engage a technical climbing team with the expertise and equipment to descend from Craig's last verifiable location. They arrived on the island of Kuchino-erabu-shima yesterday, and they will attempt to determine where Craig has come to rest after his fall, and to confirm what his current state is. Depending on that location and current state, they may make an attempt to recover him. We remind everyone this is very, very difficult and dangerous work and nothing is certain, but we are hopeful they will be able to help. We are deeply, deeply grateful to those who have continued to donate to the Fund, without whose generosity none of this would be possible; to those who have so generously donated in Robin's name, we assure you those donations are being set aside for Robin, and we thank you very, very much for your wonderful, inspiring thoughtfulness.

5/12 8:45am EST: Rebecca is in DC meeting today with the congressional delegations who have been so helpful, to continue to enlist their support and action on behalf of Craig. Chris remains in Japan working with the consulate and the Japanese authorities to get what we require to bring Craig home.

5/8 10:19am EST: We can confirm that the search group 1SRG reached the end of Craig's trail at a steep cliff dropping off into a valley or ravine below. The space below was too technically challenging for the resources of this particular team. We are absolutely certain that Craig is between that point in the trail and the bottom of that valley/ravine. We now await a team with the necessary equipment and skill-set to descend into that space and bring Craig home. Chris remains on the island, and he and all of us here are working hard to make certain this happens as soon as possible.

5/6 12:38pm EST: The search team from 1SRG spent all day yesterday discovering and following Craig's trail. They found some evidence that has given them increased confidence that it is definitively Craig whom they are tracking. Though they have not yet found Craig himself, they are working amazingly hard and have made significant progress and we are really grateful and really hopeful.

5/5 9:18am EST: Thanks to the money raised through The Fund to Find Craig Arnold, we have been able to engage the help of an independent search and rescue team (1SRG) who arrived at Kuchino-erabu yesterday afternoon. The local authorities brought the team up to speed, and they immediately began searching; they believe they have picked up Craig's trail. They will be on the island until the 9th, looking, though obviously we all hope Craig will be found before then.

However, the official search for Craig has been called off by the Japanese authorities.

With the assistance of the University of Wyoming, a fund has been established to support the search efforts to find Craig. The link directly to the fund is here:

5/4 12:19pm EST: Craig's brother Chris, who is on the island of Kuchino-erabu, has communicated that he feels the search is progressing really meticulously and professionally, and that the people of Kuchino-erabu have been passionate about finding Craig, for which they continue to have our most profound gratitude. The search is narrowing and the Fulbright volunteers have been able to contribute to the effort. It rained some yesterday, but the temperatures continue to be good.

5/3 10:55am EST: As of this morning, Craig's brother Chris Arnold is on the island of Kuchino-erabu with Craig' contact-person from Tokyo. We can confirm that the search has been extended until at least Tuesday - two additional days, for which we are profoundly grateful and extremely pleased. We want to assure all who are sympathizing and supporting us through their generous efforts that we continue to vigorously pursue every avenue that will lead to Craig's swift return, and in our grave concern for Craig we remain hopeful.

5/2 12:10am EST: While there are no significant developments at this time, we can report that authorities in Japan have been searching for Craig since 7am this morning. They are on the ground carefully searching ravines and off-trail areas near the volcano where they have evidence that Craig was headed, and which would be difficult or impossible to see from the air. A group of Fulbright volunteers are headed to the island now to contribute their efforts to the search, for which we are inexpressibly grateful. Chris Arnold will be in touch with us and is en route to the island now.

5/1 2:37 pm EST: Chris Arnold, Craig's brother, is on a plane on his way to Japan. Craig was not found yesterday, though the search continues and much work is being done by all here and in Japan. Right now the searchers can confirm that Craig did not get into trouble in or near the caldera of the volcano, allowing us to continue to narrow the search in hopes of finding Craig very soon.

4/30 11:08 EST: The coordinated efforts of the United States and Japanese government have resulted in a widened and extended search for poet Craig Arnold. We, Craig's family, are enormously grateful for these continued efforts.
