Kenny Hinson
1953 - 1995
Kenny is without a doubt one of the greatest singers to walk out on the stage. I have always loved his style and voice. Nothing like that old time campmeeting style and a voice that could bring the house down and even make a Baptist wanna shout !!
From a humble background to a Gospel Music Legend, Kenny Hinson has come to be loved and admired by thousands of gospel music fans across the world!
Considered to be one of Southern Gospel Music's most gifted vocalists, Kenny Hinson has become an icon to the genre's followers. Kenny's voice was unmatched in ability and unique in sound. His trademark vocal stylings have prompted countless imitators, supplying evidence that Hinson was a major influence on rising singers.
His musical ability was also one of great accomplishments. Anything he decided he wanted to play, he could pick it up and run with it, but from his childhood, he always worked on his guitar pickin'. His mama taught him his first few chords, and after that, his imagination, and his chet atkins records took over.
Many times the recipient of The Singing News' Fan Award for Favorite Male Vocalist. The Hinsons were also named Singing News Fan Awards Group of the Year.
Featured on the classic song, "The Lighthouse" and many other top charting songs, Kenny Hinson was a dominating vocal force in Southern Gospel Music for over 20 years as he, his brothers and sister would travel the country as one of Southern Gospel Music's favorite groups.
After the group disbanded in 1988, Hinson pastored a Pentecostal church in Houston, TX, and continued to make an occasional singing appearance as time permitted. In 1993, as the Hinsons were embarking on a reunion tour, Hinson was diagnosed with the cancer that would claim his life in 1995 at the age of 41.
In 2000, He was voted "Artist Of The Decade" and placed into the Millenium Hall of Fame by ICGMA (International Country Gospel Music Association.) In 2004 he was inducted into the SGMA (Southern Gospel Music Association) Hall of Fame & In 2006, into the GMA (Gospel Music Association) Hall of Fame
My personal favorite song is CALL ME GONE !!!
I still believe he is the greatest...
