The ERMD student Award recognizes a student who is especially interested in pursuing a career as an information professional dealing with environment and resource management issues. A $500.00 award, plus an additional $750.00 in SLA conference expenses will be paid to the student that writes an exceptional 300-500 word essay describing their interests in the issues facing information professionals in this field. Your Division conference planners have been hard at work developing interesting sessions for the 2009 Annual Conference. The Conference will be June 14-17, 2009, in Washington, DC.
Sessions include:
- Building your Green Library
- From Information to Legislation: Silent Spring and its impact on anti-pollution law and policy
- REACH and the Future of Toxics Legislation
- Socially Responsible Decision-Making: Ethics at work
- Toxicology Round Table: Environmental resources of the National Library of Medicine using innovative web technology
ERMD will also be co-sponsoring sessions on Food Safety and on Climate Change
*** Judith Matthews wins 2008 ERMD student essay award ***
Ms. Matthews of the University of Oklahoma submitted the winning essay in which see describes her interest in conservation and her role at the Oklahoma Conservation Commission. The ERMD Student Award recognizes a student who is especially interested in pursuing a career as an information professional dealing with environment and resource management issues. Ms Matthews will receive her $1,000 award at the upcoming SLA meeting in Seattle.
