This fall, peace-dreamers from all over the globe will join together to bring John Lennon’s message to a war-weary world.

On October 2 – Gandhi’s birthday - the first World March for Peace and Nonviolence began to encircle the Earth, calling for the end of war and nuclear arms, and the elimination of violence of all kinds. The journey started
in New Zealand and reaches New York in late November.

All along the route, people in every country will parade, bike, dance, sing, paint, blog - use a myriad of creative ways to express the vision of a world without war or violence.

For the first time in many decades, we have an ally on this issue – the President of the United States! Speaking on the world stage in April, President Obama set forth concrete steps to reduce the threat of nuclear war, concluding with these words:

“I know that a call to arms can stir the souls of men and women more than a call to lay them down. But that is why the voices for peace and progress must be raised together.”

Here on Long Island, we invite your community to answer that call, by spreading the message that we now have a precious moment in time when we can, YES WE CAN, prepare to rid the world of nuclear weapons.

Please keep reading for suggestions of how you and your group – your class, school, civic or religious organization, your circle of friends – can participate in this world-wide endeavor to raise voices for peace and progress. Nothing has to be on a grand scale; whatever you can do will be a valuable step forward.

Please let us know what you are planning and how we can help. Also, we meet periodically to discuss ideas, plans and support one another; we hope you will join us. Just contact us and we’ll send the date etc. of the next meeting.
