- I know that I am not the only person out there that wants to see a cable system at Powell. This group aims to gather together people that share this interest and who would likely use such a device if installed. I can not guarantee any promises that if any number of people joins this group that a cable system (Sesitec 2.0) will be installed, but I hope this group will have an effect nonetheless as I continue to advocate this idea.

I love the idea of having a cable park at Powell but due to the varying depths of Powell a cable park is difficult to impossible to put in at the Lake itself. The new Sesitec 2.0 Portable Cable System is perfect for Lake Powell and other lakes too. The system would help to protect the environment and increase the number of people that could enjoy water-sports that normally could not afford the expense of a boat.
"What if I am not interested in wakeboarding, water skiing and such?" one might ask. Cable parks and cable systems like these can decrease the amount of boats in the water on a given day. Less boats equals; less traffic, less waves and erosion on the shore line, less fuel consumption and harmful emissions. Such a system can have a direct and indirect positive effect for all types of Lake users.
I envision a pair of dock-works several hundred feet apart supporting the two "stanchions" or A frames of the system (or multiple systems) As the lake level raises and lowers so too will the docks and the system itself. Or a single dock floating far out from shore would work and the stanchion on the shore could be adjusted with lake level.
Antelope Point Marina has a Grinch Winch http://www.distortionboarding.com/default.asp?page=winches (Recently switching to an Urban Rider Winch http://www.urbanrider.com.au/Welcome.html on a taller podium) currently, which is a step in the right direction. A cable system such as the one proposed would be far more attractive to use. The draw backs of a winch are:
1.) The winch is one way. The line must be manually pulled out by person; via walking or personal water craft (pwc).
2.) The pwc is also necessary for pick-ups after a fall. This can be time consuming and can be expensive in the long run due to the maintenance and fuel expenses of the pwc.
3.) The gas powered motor that runs the winch can be noisy
4.) More limited ability to perform “air tricks” (aerial flips and other manuvers)
The Sesitec 2.0 will outperform a winch:
1.) The system operates in a continuous two-directional straight line. The system can be stopped, reversed, and used to pick-up a rider that has fallen. A pwc or some other water craft would only be necessary for emergency pick-ups.
2.) Though the initial expense of the system is greater than the winch, in the long run the system will be more economical without the greater maintenance, time, and fuel costs associated with a winch
3.) The system is powered by a small, quiet, environmentally friendly electrical motor accompanied only by the softer whir of the pulley device as it zooms down the cable lines.
4.) A larger variety of tricks can be performed on this cable system because of its angle of pull.
