The only school in Chicago teaching direct Ip Man/Ip Ching lineage Ving Tsun (Wing Chun)

The VTSDA is dedicated to teaching Ving Tsun Kung Fu as it has been passed on directly from Master Ip Ching.

After traveling to Hong Kong to learn the Ving Tsun system intimately from his Sifu, Master Ip Ching, Sifu Matthew Johnson founded the VTSDA in order to teach Ving Tsun directly and purely, just as he learned it.

A participant in both the opening of the Ip Man Tong in 2002 and the 2nd Wing Chun World Conference in 2005, Matt Johnson is well respected in Hong Kong, China, and the UK. With 20 years of Ving Tsun experience, he has represented Ip Ching's Ving Tsun against many martial arts and kung fu styles.

Sifu Johnson maintains an informal, ego-free environment at the VTSDA, modeled after Sifu Ip Ching's class at the Ving Tsun Athletic Association in Hong Kong.

The VTSDA offers open classes for men and women, private lessons, and seminars focusing on specific elements of Ving Tsun principles and practice. One open class each month is dedicated entirely to street applications of Ving Tsun for self defense. Classes here offer serious training in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere.

The VTSDA is not operated on a commercial basis, accepting anyone who shows up at the door. Prospective students must go through an interview process with Sifu Matt. This is to insure a good fit between Sifu and student. Also to make sure the new student is of good character, and also to make sure they will not adversely affect the other students in the school. The VTSDA is looking for dedicated students. Students who are not afraid to work hard and who are serious about learning Kung Fu and self defense.

If accepted into the school, students can expect to learn the Ving tsun system without "Secrets" or having anything held back.

The VTSDA is pure self defense. If you want to be able to defend yourself; if you do not want to be a victim, then this is the place to train.
