The campaign to save the Livesey Museum for Children continues. We, the Friends, have formed a Friends charity which exists to continue the legacy of the Museum whether in the old building, or in a new building or in community spaces and schools.
Southwark Council shut the Museum on 29th February after the vote to close it on 20th Feb. The Livesey was located in one of the most deprived areas of London. The museum had been operating with minimal resources but reached disadvantaged communities, schools and families, providing great value for money. Everyone involved in the museum, as friend or staff, has plenty of evidence of the impact of the innovative displays on visitors.
You are still urged to express your support for the Museum:
Please sign the petition on http://www.gopetition.com/online/16681.html
If you wish to express your displeasure at the speed of closure by email or letter see the thread 'Who to Contact'.
If you wish to support the Friends and get more detailed news, go to http://liveseyfriends.wordpress.com/ where you will find a joining application form and details on where to send donations.
Note that this Facebook group is called Save Southwark's Museums because at first we heard that the Cuming Museum was also slated for closure. It's not possible to change the name!
