Dear Friends and Supporters,

I am writing to thank each of you for all of the encouragement, hours of work, generous contributions and support that you have given to my campaign over the last 18 months. Your involvement made a tremendous difference throughout the campaign, and I am humbled and very grateful.

For the last year and half I have been privileged to travel throughout the 4th district, to meet the many fine Hoosiers in our communities who share a common belief: That our government can and should be better, and that we can make that happen.

In communities like Bedford, Frankfort, Crawfordsville and Lafayette, I was inspired by the idealism, courage and determination of the many supporters who worked tirelessly on this campaign.

Like you, I was disappointed by the outcome of the election. However, I am incredibly proud of the manner that we ran this campaign. Over the course of eighteen months we were supported by more than three thousand local volunteers, developed strong community relationships in six field offices, had direct contact with over 100,000 voters, created a widely used and praised multimedia website, and developed an innovative radio and TV campaign. Our campaign achieved widespread earned media attention, including receiving the endorsement of the Lafayette Journal and Courier — the first time in 12 years that the largest newspaper in the district chose not to endorse my opponent.

Thanks to your efforts we were able to raise significant issues and carry a strong message to voters here in the 4th district about the need to change Washington. Although we ran in one of the most Republican districts in the nation, and even though the Republican Party turned out a huge and historic number of voters, together we achieved the strongest finish of any challenger race of either party in Indiana, receiving over 128,000 votes. Thanks to bipartisan support we carried Tippecanoe County, including Lafayette and Purdue University, by a 10 percent margin, and received more votes than President-Elect Obama or any other democratic candidate in several counties in this district.

These results are astounding, and reflect the amount of hard work by so many here in the 4th District. Over the coming weeks and months I look forward to thanking each of you personally, and I hope that you will keep in touch and continue to fight for the change we need here in Indiana and in Washington.

With sincere gratitude,

Nels Ackerson

As most of you know, we have been promised OFA2.0 for some time now. Things are starting to move, with a statewide call last week and a national call this week. Below are some details, gleaned from the calls.

Structure of OFA:
Housed at the DNC in Washington DC
Mitch Stewart- Director of OFA (directed Obama's state primary campaign for Indiana; state general campaign in Virginia)
Jeremy Bird- Deputy Director of OFA
Regional Leads (in DC)--ours is Tripp Wellde
State Volunteer Liaison (one per state)--ours is David Hunter, a Hoosier who was a field organiser in the north west part of the state. He is an unpaid volunteer at this stage, and a member of our Facebook page. Eventually we will see paid staff in each state .

The three relevant Facebook groups are:
National: Organizing for America (OFA 2.0)
http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/group.php?gid=50127317171

Statewide: Organizing for Indiana

Local: Organizing for America -- Bloomington & Monroe County http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/group.php?gid=56912789685&ref=mf

Top issues OFA are focusing on right now...

 Energy independence
 Rising cost of health care
Ensuring a 21st century education for everyone
These mirror the top issues that President Obama covered in his budget proposal to Congress

First OFA project: a Pledge Project Canvass.
Why gather pledges?
To show support of President Obama's new budget to both Washington and at home in our communities. It is also a great way to get to talk to neighbors about the beginnings of OFA and recruit more help as they move along.

The one-stop shop for information--

FAQs
1. How do we contact OFA (outside of our Volunteer Liaisons)? ofainfo@dnc.org

2. Where do we find the materials for the Pledge Project Canvass? EVERYTHING is found online at the website listed above

3. How will these pledges from the canvass be used to persuade Congress to pass the budget? Simply to prove that the American people are concerned with these issues and that OFA will be present in all states from here on out.

Hello Indiana for Obama,

I hope you are as fired up as I am after President Obama’s speech last night! Across the country and here in Indiana we are inspired by the President’s message and motivated to organize for change.

I wanted to introduce myself to those of you who I don’t yet know. My name is David Hunter and I worked as a grassroots organizer on the Obama campaign. Just like many of you, I knocked on doors, made phone calls and held organizing meetings with teams of volunteers. Together we won this election.

I am excited to serve as Indiana’s Volunteer Liaison to Organizing for America and I'm thrilled to tell you that Organizing for America is up and running! OFA’s mission is to mobilize our grassroots movement in support of President Obama’s policies for change and to build on and strengthen that grassroots organization we have all built together. I am an unpaid volunteer (not an official OFA staffer) who has been asked to help coordinate our efforts here in Indiana with OFA’s national office.

I know that many of you are already utilizing the Obama network to organize in your communities. In Indiana alone, we held 69 house parties and collected 763 stories around the economic crisis. Your efforts helped pass the Economic Recovery and Reinvestment Act and your involvement will be critical to its success.

You can act today to support our economic recovery. We've put together an easy to use online tool to look up the phone numbers of your representati ves who voted in favor of the economic recovery plan -- take a few minutes today to thank them for doing what's right.

Take a minute to thank the Senators and Representatives who supported the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, and encourage them to continue working with President Obama to lift America out of this economic crisis. When you're done, report back to us about the calls you made.

Throughout the next weeks and months, I look forward to working with all of you to ensure that Organizing for America is successful here in Indiana. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or ideas as we continue to organize for change.

If you have a group organized (no matter how big or small) in any area of Indiana, could you email or call me with your contact information. Please email me your name or Group’s name, group contact phone number, email and/or website, so that we can begin to connect with each other as we move forward. I plan to travel around Indiana, meeting with as many of you as I can, in the next few weeks. Please know, that any questions and concerns that you have can be communicated through me directly to OFA.

Thanks so much, I look forward to speaking with you and meeting with you in the future.
