ARTSPARKS, a new and experimental program, is bringing the creative energy of Seattle’s vibrant arts community into daily downtown life.
http://www.artsparksseattle.org
From June through October, three center city parks will each serve as an “art space” for a specific curator or curatorial team. Rob D’Arc at Victor Steinbrueck Park by the Pike Place Market, Ingrid Lahti and Carrie Bodle at Westlake Park, and Susie Lee and Elizabeth Umbanhowar at Occidental Park in the Pioneer Square neighborhood, will explore their own artistic interests with performance, sound, painting, words, giant puppets…arts of all kinds. Catch a glimpse, stay and watch, join in, or track all three parks to see what happens.
Occidental Park:
Susie J. Lee, a visual artist & Elizabeth A. Umbanhowar, a landscape architect create a program for Occidental inspired by the works of Haruki Murakami. They are partnering with five local artists / arts organizations: 826 Seattle, a center dedicated to youth creative writing; Doug Jeck, professor at the 3D4M Department at UW; Gina Coffman, performance artist and entymologist; Steve Messick and Katie Sauter, trumpeter and cellist in Orchestra Seattle; and Dk Pan, performance artist and part of Free Sheep Foundation. The artists will weave themes from Murakami's work such as parallel worlds of the magical and the mundane, elusive relationships, spontaneous journeys and jazz meanderings into interactive performances, readings, music, and visual works for the public to encounter.

Victor Steinbrueck Park:
Rob D'Arc, puppeteer, proposes a series of art splurges including puppetry, improv and busker-type entertainment to surprise and delight people at unexpected times.

Westlake Park:
Ingrid Lahti, conceptual and installation artist, along with Carrie Bodle, visual and sound artist, create a series of arts happenings where people can experience art in process and have a chance to interact with artists about their work.
