12 months. 12 events. In aid of Shelter, and other charities. Sponsor early. Sponsor often.
January 20th: The first of the 12 events, so an easy one to start with. A 12 hour cycle ride. That roughly equates to 200 miles. Not sure where to go with that 200 miles, but I’m thinking of a trip around the M25 (or as close as I can get on my push bike). Any suggestions?
February: Looks like I'm going to get this comedy night off the ground. Jongleurs. Laughter. And all you have to do is join me and buy a ticket. Put's the 'fun' into 'fun'draising.
March 1st to 8th: I’m going skiing in the three valleys. Wait, that’s not it. A few years ago I competed in the ‘three valleys rally’, a race from Val Thorens to Courchevel 1650 and back (that’s across all 3 valleys and back). I did it in 2 hours 36 mins. This year, I’m planning on doing it in a slightly longer time as I won’t be using the lifts, but walking up and down the mountains on touring skis (that’s a total of around 2000m ascent). Never done it before. Should be fun.
April 27th: Clapham Common 10k. I've never run a 10k before.... Well, I've run two now! Ran the Clapham Common race (and had a warm up race during the week before). I finished in 42 minutes, 31 seconds. My legs hurt now. Roll on the Berlin Marathon!
May 7th: Woodstockwell Festival. Says it all.
June: Back in easy territory here. London to Brighton bike ride. 50-odd miles in aid of the British Heart Foundation.
July: The London Bikeathon (I expect you’re seeing a pattern here in terms of my chosen activities!) in aid of Leukemia Research.
August 10th: The London Triathlon. I was supposed to enter this last year, but got injured and exhibited my laziness by not rushing back to fitness. So this year I’m making up for it by entering again, but doing double the distance. Olympic distance triathlon is 1.5km swim followed by a 40km cycle and then a 10km run. Hope I’ll be fit this year!
September: Berlin Marathon. Never done anything this stupid before.
October: Cakeathon. All those calories burnt up earlier in the year need replacing.
November: November is Movember (www.movember.com). All in aid of testicular cancer research. Revel in the enjoyment of watching me grow a hairy mess under my nose.
December: Christmas pub quiz time of year. Hoping to hijack the charity fund from the one I usually do, and will be trying to arrange a quiz night at work too.
I’ve got a big target that I’m aiming for, so dig deep for a really worthwhile charity. Join my facebook group for updates and photos.
