- Description:
- For parents of children with strabismus.
My story:
My name is Lisa and I was born with strabismus — the clinical term for eyes that seem to be looking in different directions.
I had surgery three times in my life, once as a baby and twice as an adult, so I could look like everyone else. Now my eyes look “normal”, but it cost me my binocular vision — in other words, I can’t see in 3-D like everyone else.
Now my sweet baby Lúa has strabismus. We’ve been treating her with patches, and she has little glasses — which she doesn’t like to wear, but they’re so darned cute! There’s also talk of surgery in the future.
But I want Lúa to be able to see the world in all its dimensions!
I want to learn everything I can before we go down a path we can’t turn back from.
Options?
I’ve discovered there are treatments for strabismus other than surgery — including vision therapy, homeopathy and other forms of eye exercises.
What I would like if for parents to have the opportunity to hear all the latest thinking about this condition and its treatment before making such an important decision. And that’s what The Eye of the Tigger is intended to provide.
The Event
The Eye of the Tigger will be a panel discussion at the end of July featuring doctors from all sides of the treatment spectrum — so parents of children with strabismus can learn about what it is and all the different ways it can be treated.
The discussion is sure to be fascinating, and I hope it will help you feel well-informed and confident as you decide what’s best for your baby.
If you want to attend this event or help out with it, please send an e-mail to info@theeyeofthetigger.com. If you know of anyone who may be interested, please let them know about this Facebook group, or point them to theeyeofthetigger.com for more information.
All the best to you and your family,
Lisa Olafson
