News:
With the recent announcement of Diageo’s intentions for the St James Gate site in Dublin, we give a cautious welcome.

Their apparent commitment to invest over €100m into St James Gate and retain a fully functional brewery at the famous site is to be welcomed.

Diageo have announced that St James Gate will continue to produce Guinness for the Irish and UK markets and in addition continue to produce the ‘essence of Guinness’ for the worldwide market.

This is in contrast to what was planned: The cessation of commercial production at the site. This has now been scrapped.

While many will be sorry to see up to half of the site sold for development, we must take the view that Guinness will continue to be produced at its home for many, many years to come. The current brewery will be invested in heavily, an indication that Diageo now recognize the importance of this site. And a new ‘super brewery’ will be built in Co Dublin for the export market, cementing Guinness’s history and association with the city of its birth.

St James Gate and Guinness are synonymous. Lose one and you lose the other. The story of ‘the black stuff’ and its home at the ‘Gate’ are intrinsically linked… and for now their present and future are too.

Diageo now get it & we must welcome this.
It is an indication that Guinness do listen to the views of its customers. And a wise thing that is!

Well done everybody. Together we have made a difference. For now Guinness at St James Gate is saved.

Together we can now all drink our favorite pint content in the knowledge that it is the real stuff!
