It has been noted that there will be only two more editions of Foinse, the Irish language weekly newspaper, due to an acute lack of funds for the paper.
Irish language organisations have also expressed their support for Foinse. Comhdháil Náisiúnta na Gaeilge expressed its concern in a letter published in Foinse this week. In his letter, Pádraig Mac Criostail, Director of An Chomhdháil stated: “The requirement for a national Irish language paper is recognised, as a factor which depicts the vibrancy of the living language. It is therefore evident, that there is a greater worth to the work undertaken by Foinse, than the monetary value of the funding provided to publish the paper... It is a cause for concern for Comhdháil Náisiúnta na Gaeilge that the future of Foinse, the only Irish language newspaper, is under threat. Foinse has served the Irish language community since 1996, and has provided a very important service, providing national, international and Irish language related news in our native language.”

Tugtar faoi deara nach mbeidh ach dhá eagrán eile de Foinse, nuachtán seachtainiúil na Gaeilge mar gheall ar géarchéim airgid an nuachtáin.
Tá tacaíocht léirithe ag eagraíochtaí Gaeilge chomh maith. Léirigh Comhdháil Náisiúnta na Gaeilge tacaíocht i litir a seoladh chuig eagarthóir an nuachtáin an tseachtain seo caite. Sa litir dúirt Pádraig Mac Criostail, Stiúrthóir na Comhdhála: Aithnítear an riachtanas go mbeadh nuachtán náisiúnta trí Ghaeilge ar fáil mar léiriú ar bheocht na teanga. Is cinnte, mar sin, go bhfuil luach níos mó ag baint leis an obair atá faoi réir agaibh ná an méid airgid a chaitear chun an nuachtán a fhoilsiú... Is cúis imní é don Chomhdháil mar sin go bhfuil foilsiú an nuachtáin FOINSE, an t-aon nuachtán náisiúnta Gaeilge, i mbaol. Tá FOINSE ag freastal ar phobal na Gaeilge ó céadbhunaíodh é i 1996 agus is áis ríthábhachtach é chun an nuacht náisiúnta agus idirnáisiúnta, agus nuacht na Gaeilge chomh maith, a chur ar fáil inár dteanga féin.”
