- Description:
- Once again another live music venue is under threat of permanent closure; the current owners (Spirit Group) have closed it indefinately until they can work out what to do with it. The plan of a family-friendly pub/restaurant has been forstalled but we don't know for how long or what will resurface in it's place.
The Tumbledown is a well known venue that attracts unsigned acts along with a number of top tribute acts.
Let's show the owners that us customers have a voice and prevent them from... (read more) - Privacy Type:

- ----------------------- The Word on the Street... : 9th September 2008 ------------------------
It's been a while since I last updated this & for that I please accept my apologies. There happened to be Mitigating Factors that would not only blow your mind but would also explode your eyeballs too so they're probably best left unsaid.
Firstly, a huge thank you to the 1'272 peeps who signed the petition! It is still going & can still be signed by any of your friends who haven't!
So what happened?
Well, it turns out that getting in touch with someone from the Spirit Group is harder than the whole blood/stone debacle but we did it, laid out our plans to them, showed them that there was huge support & trade available if they /didn't/ change it into a family-friendly pub/restaurant... And then they chose to shut the pub indefinately.
Bit of a bugger really.
The staff were made redundant or moved on & the place left to rack & ruin 'til someone gets their arse in gear & decides what to do with the building.
In the meantime we've been exploring other avenues including finding a buyer for the lease, getting the building listed with English Heritage & digging for buried treasure 'though that has so far only turned up a 1998 vintage coke can which apparently is of no potential value. If you know of a possible collector please send details...
On a plus note, as you're probably aware, Quarantine is accepting the inevitable delay in the return of it's venue & moving over to The Agincourt (Quadj?) on every second Friday of every month (Sept 12, Oct 10, Nov 14, Dec 12).
All the classic moozik, drink promotions galore etc. etc. (£2.50 Dbl Vodka & Red Bull, £2 Fosters & £2 WKD Blue) & we'll be down there harrassing you with a flyer or two, rockin' out & generally getting pished.
Information blah, blah, http://www.quarantineclub.co.uk/ & http://www.new.facebook.com/event.php?eid=34870317544
So, basically we're not giving up just yet. And nor should you. If I have to spell out the reasons why my ears will probably start bleeding although that could be an exagerration of a lie. Dare you take the risk?

----------------------- Phase One (1) : 16th April 2008 ------------------------
So here's the craic.
Last week a few of us got together & formulated The Plan. The cogs are a'turning...
To start with, please read & append your ol' John Hancock on the 'official' petition:
http://gopetition.com/petitions/save-the-tumbledown-venue.html
I realise there are a few who think a petition is simply a waste of a few key strokes but Spirit is really hoping for an easy life & it is up to us to show them otherwise. The more hassle we give them, the more signatories, the more they will take notice, the more likely they will change their minds.
Get the word out. Post bulletins, add it to your status, throw it around forums you frequent, tell your friends, neighbours & just about anyone that'll take a minute out.
To this end we're also forming street teams to cover the local area & beyond.
If you want to be part of dropping flyers & petitions to business', colleges, churches (wherever will take 'em!) in Farnborough, North Camp, Cove, Frimley, Church Crookham, Camberley, Fleet, Aldershot, Guildford & Farnham (or anywhere else you can think of) then reply to this message with the area you can feasibly drop & your address so we can send you stuffs.
We've gotten in touch with the local press & they're gonna be helping us out too.
We've also gotten in touch with the Rushmoor council & they seemed unaware of the shenanigans that're going down in our locale & so far seem on-side. This has left me a little non-plussed to the original information I was given but we're investigating.
This is the start.
We're making a stand.
We will not back down.
With love, the tumbledown posse.x
