ORLANDO, Fla. -- A University of Central Florida football player has died after participating in offseason conditioning drills on campus.

Ereck Plancher, a freshman wide receiver from Naples, Fla., was pronounced dead shortly before noon Tuesday at a hospital, school spokesman Joe Hornstein said.

Hornstein said Plancher apparently took a knee during conditioning at the school in Orlando. He became unresponsive and was taken by ambulance to the hospital, Hornstein said.

The school was scheduled to begin spring practice Wednesday.
