简介: This group began in retaliation to the group 'Perth people who love daylight saving', however it has grown far beyond that. This is a group for all Western Australians who will vote NO in the upcoming referendum for the unnecessary ridiculousness that is Daylight Saving in WA.

We are the people who dont want to wake up in darkness all year round, the people whose bodyclocks cant adjust, those who lose sleep or lose their morning activities so that when they get home from work, uni or school they have to waste electricity on airconditioning.

Those who are pro-daylight saving ridicule us for upset cows, faded curtains and grumpy kids. What THEY dont see is how an hour so detrimentally and unnecessarily affects so many people's lives.

For those who have come from over East and wish to inflict their love of DLS on us, perhaps you would consider why you have it over there?! Our sun sets over the ocean and thus we have late sunsets in summer already. Our sunrises however are later than those over East, and so DLS plunges us into dark mornings for most of the year that was meant to be lighter.

This 3 year Daylight saving trial has been forced on us despite many referendums voting no in the past. Yet if the vote is yes, what chance is there of a referendum to ditch it?

Australia is a democratic country, not one whose states should be controlled by the whims of politicians.

"WESTERN Australia has rejected daylight saving in its fourth referendum on the issue in four decades running.
WA Electoral Commissioner Warwick Gately said the No vote had a clear majority.

Mr Gately said the No vote had held steady at 55 per cent, increasing the margin slightly from the last time a referendum was held on the issue in 1992.

By 9pm (WST) today the No vote had maintained 55 per cent of the vote, after 70 per cent of the vote was counted.

WA Premier Colin Barnett said West Australians had to accept the reality that daylight saving was not popular in the state.

"It's a very clear result,'' Mr Barnett told ABC Radio.

"West Australians don't like daylight saving.

"We've just got to accept the reality, West Australians don't like daylight saving and we simply won't have daylight saving.'' "

Sanity has prevailed. After what may would agree was a highly undemocratic trial and process, the democracy have spoken, and even Matt Birney has conceded that the Yes vote lost 'fair and square'.

More valid reasons why Daylight Saving should crawl in a hole and die:

When you have small diurnal children, they refuse to eat til it's dinner time (about sunset) and go to bed til it's bedtime (a bit after the sun has set. Result: angry cranky children at 11pm not being helped by annoyed parents.

That extra hour before the Freo doctor comes in is torturous. Can't say I'm a fan of the hot weather - I've always found it interesting that people sigh with relief when the sea breeze comes in, yet seem intent of pushing its arrival out by and hour.

The argument that it save electricity has always bermused me too. Really - having people getting home and hour earlier and using their air cons for an extra hour a day saves electricity!?!?

Oh, and it's just wrong going for night-time coffee when the bloody sun is still up.

Our summers are hot enough at night to have it hotter an hour earlier.
To say businesses in WA need it to keep in touch with the east coast is just sticking your head into the sand. In this day and age of computer technology anything can go anywhere around the world at anytime they wish to. You can have email attached to your mobile as an example.

People who want daylight savings want it for reasons that would be NICE. The people who don't want it don't want it for reasons that AFFECT THEIR LIVELIHOOD, real reasons. It is stupid and uneccessary.

When your in the North of the state, you work a 12 hour day, and you have to start in the dark cos the sun doesn't come up until 6:30, and then you knock off at 5:30 go eat and want to go to sleep and the suns still up.

1) we are told it's good for business- but we do business with Asia, so how does moving out of their time zone help?
2) our economy is stabilised by our mining exports to Asia- why change
3) why do we have to do what the eastern states tells us to do? shouldn't we be setting the agenda!?
4) it's bad for the environment- i don't go outside for an afternoon walk, it's too hot! I stay in my airconditioned classroom for another hour until it's cool enough to leave.
5) i also need the lights on in the morning because it's too bloody dark getting ready for work! more energy wasted!
6) things aren't open any later, so it's light enough to go and look at closed shops!
7) public transport doesn't change their timetables, so forget using trains, ferries or buses to go anywhere (ever seen a bus timetable post 6pm?-not a long read!)
8) many athletes train in the morning- too dark in daylight saving
9) had an intimate candlelit dinner in broad daylight? it sucks!
