The Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center kicks off La Gloria with an exhibit featuring 62 artists this Saturday, October 10 from 6 p.m. to midnite at the Guadalupe's Galeria Tonantzin, 723 S. Brazos. A Dia De Los Muertos reception will take place on Monday, Nov. 2, 2009. Both events are free.

This is the first time more than ...50 artists show in one exhibit at Galeria Tonantzin. Mujeres, Mentors, Milagros y Muertos brings together a diverse group of people who reflect the growing, changing and sometimes invisible art community. The show will remain on exhibit through November 23, 2009. A second opening reception for Dia de los Muertos is set for Monday, November 2nd.

"As a curator I have been given the liberty and support to create a magical realm that includes installation, painting, piñatas, sculpture, photography and devotional components with fairy dust and a lot of elbow grease," said David Zamora Casas, curator of the exhibit. "Seasoned artists are
helping younger artists find and develop their voice in search of our connection to this barrio, city, universe and galaxy," he added.

David Zamora Casas is an energetic, self-trained artist presently working as a painter, sculptor and curator of performance and installation art. He is an important curator and arts activist in the gay and American-Mexican communities who has earned a reputation throughout Texas and the U.S. arts community as a passionate and risk taking visionary whose work champions principles of tolerance and justice through social satire.
