Kimberley Earle teaches Creative Arts to a diverse group of 11-19 year olds at an inner-city Secondary school in Liverpool, UK. She used our work in a student project in March. Her report: Our protest outside the Walker Art Gallery was very successfuland did actually make curators and the Director of the gallery very...how shall I say, defensive??!! They rushed to tell us that they are acquiring 7 new works for their collection and 5 of those are by women! They also said we had our figures wrong when we worked out that only 2.9% of the works on display were by women, one by a female artist of colour...we worked out our figures on info they had given us(!!!) and that ACTUALLY the figure was 5%! Well, whoop de do!!! Oh yes, they are currently curating an exhibition called 'The Rise of Women Artists" which we will check out in October.
