Ms. Swanson, per Kaiser Family Foundation & UCSF there are approx. 19,000 reported condom failures in the US every night....key word: "reported." No form of birth control is 100% effective other than abstinence, or having your tubes tied....safer sex does not always prevent unintended pregnancy. BCP are convenient and have worked to lower unintended pregnancy and as a family planning method....yet BCPs come at a price, a higher price in several ways for some women more than others.
