Wow, I am old. I can remember watching this show as a child, when it first came on the air! I remember vastly prefering The Electric Company– anyone remember that show?– to Sesame Street. Over the past few months my 4yr old son has been watching Sesame Street videos on my iPhone. It...

If you haven’t read anything that made you cry today, read this story. It is about a little girl who was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Unbeknownst to her family, she drew hundreds of pictures and wrote notes and hid them all over the house. Once she died, her family began finding them. ...

My oldest son, a teenager, was telling me that he really needs a raise in his allowance. But, you haven’t even been doing any chores at all to earn the allowance you are already getting, I said. Well, I think going to school and playing football count as my chores. Hahaha. No, they do not. ...

I so totally get that.. My 8th grader is so into sports that it's hard for her to get chores done. Then she wants money, but part of her money is spent on her cell phone. We have a prepaid plan, but the money to add time still comes from us.. I remind her that she gets minutes on her phone, but not doing her chores.

I don't know. I think maybe going to school should count. That is a lot of time spent!!!

True school should count has a chore but the child should not get paid cash for it.We all have things we half to do but we dont get paid in cash for For example being a parent, that is probly the bigest job there is. Do we get a paycheck? No, so a child should not get paid for going to school if he/she improves their grade from last report card maybe but not for just showing up to school.

There has been a lot of talk in my extended neighborhood, and among friends and family, about whether or not to vaccinate our kids for the H1N1 virus, the Swine Flu. I have never had my children vaccinated for the flu...

We choose to not do the shots in our house. Many of the additives that are put in vaccinations are scary and even if there has not be hard and fast evidence to support them causing one thing or another, I am still a skeptic about their safety. The flu is generally not too serious with *most* people and I'm not sure the risks of the shots outweigh the benefits.

My daughter was invited to a classmates 7 yr old birthday party this weekend. When I got the invitation I was happy to see that it was a home party, not some completely over the top extravaganza. I went to the party assuming that I would be able to just drop her off. Isn’t that [...]

When I had my childs parties at the house, i have tried to make them sleepovers so no parents would stay so their kids would have fun too. I know it's hard on kids to have their parents hovering over them especially when the kids are trying to find who they are. I also know as a parent it is hard to let go but that is what cell phones are for. My ... Read Moredaughter is now 11 and she has had a cell phone since she was 8. i know that's abit overboard, at least some parents will think, but I am a single mom and I need to know that i can get a hold of my daughter at any time.

I am heading out to buy my children Halloween costumes. We have many, many costumes so I don’t need that many, but I do need some accessories and my daughter needs a costume. Wish me luck finding her something that doesn’t make her look like a streetwalker. Th...

I am out of town this week on a business trip. I don’t travel all the much, a hand full of times per year for business and maybe one or two other times for fun, but my children still do not love it when I am gone from home. What I do when I am traveling [...]

It has been raining a LOT the past few weeks. But my children have not seemed to mind all that much. They have been thrilled to play in the rain, sometimes wearing bathing suits. Jumping in puddles. Splashing in the street. Luckily the weather has cooperated in so far as [...]

I have another child down with the flu. As soon as one recovers, another one seems to get it. I suppose this is keeping with the 7-10 day incubation period. But it is wearing me down. My 8 yr old spiked a temperature of 104 tonight. I immediately gave him Advil and an ice pack for [...]
