Park University Hauptmann School for Public Affairs HSPA alumnus Steve Beamer, a major in the North Kansas City Police Department, recently unveiled plans for a Second Saturdays art market for his city. Another HSPA alumnus, Jeff Samborski, the city's economic development director, has collaborated with Beamer on the project.

Steve Beamer couldn’t help taking a little detour while learning about the light-rail system in Portland, Ore., earlier this year. At one of the stops, there was Portland’s Saturday Market, an open-air art marketplace that attracts a large crowd and creates a lot of buzz.

Park University Hauptmann School for Public Affairs Dr. José Luis Valdés-Ugalde of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México has accepted Park University's invitation to deliver the 2010 Dr. Jerzy Hauptmann Distinguished Guest Lecture. Dr. Valdes has written extensively on the cultural aspects of U.S. foreign policy toward its southern neighbors as well as the intern...ational and regional implications of 9/11. The lecture will take place next April.
