Keep in mind that only the presentation of the information is changing — no additional information about you or other people is shared outside of what was already available in current search listings.

You can customize who can find you in search from the Search section of the Privacy Settings page. You will always have the option not to appear in search listings at all.

Anyone who is able to find you in search will always be able to click on your search listing in order to view your name and networks. You can further control the information that these users see by changing the options underneath the title "Search Result Content." There are five listed options: see your picture, send you a message, view your friend list, add you as a friend, and view the Pages you are a fan of. Un-checking any of these boxes will prevent the user from being able to perform the action.

Please note that you may see a different version of the site than others when you perform searches from your own account. You will always be able to find your profile in search because you can always view your own profile. However, users who do not have this permission will not be able to find your profile using search.

If you can't find a friend in search, there may be a few reasons for this:

• The other person might have a privacy option that limits your ability to find them in a search.
• The person you are looking for might not be on Facebook yet. Send them an Invite.
• Make sure to utilize the "People" search filter. This filter narrows your search to people on Facebook. From this filter, you can further refine your results by typing a location, school, or workplace in the appropriate field and clicking the "Filter Results" button. Note that searching for people on Facebook will only yield results for people permit their profiles to appear in search."

First, make sure that your Privacy page settings allow you to be found in searches. Click on the "Search" section of the Privacy page, and make sure that you have made yourself visible to everyone that you want.

To show up in Classmates Search, you need to indicate what high school and/or college you attended in the section of your profile. To show up in Coworkers Search, you need to enter all of the places you have worked in the section of your profile.

By default, everyone can find you in search. However, when people click on your search listing in order to view your name and networks, they won’t be able to see all of the information in your profile. Any additional information that they can view when they click on your search listing is determined by your Search Result Content and Profile privacy settings.

You can control who can find you, what information they will see, and what actions they can take from the Search section of the Privacy page. You can restrict who can find you from the "Search Visibility" drop-down menu. In the "Search Result Content" section, you will find settings for what people can see about you and how they can interact with your profile when they find you in searches. Please note that unchecking all of these boxes does not hide you from searches; it just prevents people from taking any action upon the search result. Finally, you can restrict what information shows in your public listing from the "Public Search Listing" section.

We are aware of the problem that you described and hope to resolve it as soon as possible. However, please keep in mind that you can narrow your search results by using more targeted Search features, such as Profile Search.

The person that you searched for has probably adjusted his or her search privacy to prevent these actions from being available. From the "Search" section of the Privacy page, all users can adjust what people can do with their search results. These options allow them to prevent people who cannot see their profile from messaging them or requesting them as a friend.

Facebook Search allows you to search for anything on the site, including people on other networks, provided they haven't restricted their privacy settings. When you are on the Search page, just type in the individual's name. You can also specify which network you want to search. Select "Other Network," then begin typing the name of the network, and we'll give you possible matches.

You can also use the special Classmate Search and Coworker Search to find people you know from school or work. Classmate Search allows you to search for people that attended a specific high school or college. You can search a specific school, or specify a class year to narrow down your results. Coworker Search lets you search for people based on what companies they worked at according to their profiles.

It depends on the person's privacy settings. From the Search section of the Privacy Settings page, you can adjust your own Search privacy options to be as open or restrictive as you want. In the "Search Visibility" dropdown, you can select any option, ranging from "Everyone" to "Only Friends." By choosing "Customize" you can further control who will be able to find you in search.

From the Search privacy page, you can also establish what people can see about you and how they can interact with your profle when they find you in searches. In the middle of the page, you will see a section called "Search Result Content" with five options. From this section, you can make it so that your profile picture does not appear in your search results. You can also prevent the people who find you in searches from messaging you, adding you as a friend, viewing your friends list, or viewing the Pages you are a fan of. These settings only apply to people who are not permitted to see your profile based on the selection you make in the "Search Visibility" dropdown. Please note that unchecking all of these boxes does not hide you from searches; it just prevents people from taking any action upon the search result.

When you enter a search on Facebook, you will land in the "All Results" filter by default. This filter includes all of the most relevant content from Facebook in addition to the web. To refine your search, select a filter from the menu on the left side of the search results page. Selecting one of these filters will display search results exclusively from that filter, and will also give you the option to narrow your search even more.

Search filters include:

• People: helps you find people you know on Facebook. To narrow your people search, just type a location, school, or workplace in the appropriate field and click the "Filter Results" button.
• Pages: helps you find Pages that interest you on Facebook. To narrow your Pages search, select a Page type from the drop-down menu and click the "Filter Results" button.
• Groups: helps you find groups on Facebook that are related to your search. Groups that can be seen by everyone are viewable in search results; secret groups are not viewable in search results. To further refine your groups search, select a group type from the drop-down menu and click the "Filter Results" button.
• Applications: helps you find applications by outside developers that interest you.
• Events: helps you find events on Facebook that are related to your search. Events that can be seen by everyone are viewable in search results; secret events are not viewable in search results. To narrow your events search, select a date and/or event type from the drop-down menus and click the "Filter Results" button.
• Web Results: helps you find relevant web information outside of Facebook that is related to your search.
• Posts by Friends: helps you find status updates and other content your friends have posted that are related to your search. To narrow your search, select a post type from the drop-down menu or type in a location that interests you and click the "Filter Results" button.
• Posts by Everyone: helps you find status updates and other content from anyone who enables their posts to be viewed by people other than friends. To narrow your search, select a language and/or post type from the drop-down menus and click the "Filter Results" button.

You can use a vertical line (the | character, also known as a "pipe") to separate two queries and search for them at the same time.

For example, the search results displayed after searching John Doe | Jane Doe includes both John Doe search results with Jane Doe search results in the same list.
