Managing Pages With Locations

Setting a Location for Your Page

To add an address or map to your Page:
  1. At the top of your Page, click Edit Page
  2. Select Update Page Info
  3. Click Address and enter your address
  4. Click to check the box next to Show map, check-ins and star ratings on the Page
  5. Click Save Changes

If you see an error when you add the address for your Page, make sure that you've entered the correct location. If the address is correct and you still see the error, drag the pin on the map to your location.

Adding the address and map will help your Page show up as a nearby place. Also, if you choose Local Business for your Page's category, adding your address will enable check-ins. Learn how to change your Page's category.

Note: It may take up to a few hours for your changes to be visible on your Page.

To let people check in at your business on a Page you manage, you'll need to choose Local Business for your Page's category and add your business address to the Page. You can choose your Page's category when you create a Page, or if you've already created a Page, you can change your Page's category.

To change your Page's category to Local Business:
  1. From the top of your Page, click Edit Page
  2. Select Update Page Info
  3. Click Category
  4. Select Local Businesses from the first dropdown menu, then select a more specific category (ex: Restaurant/Cafe) from the second dropdown menu
  5. Click Save Changes
To add your business address to your Page:
  1. At the top of your Page, click Edit Page
  2. Select Update Page Info
  3. Click Address and enter your business address
  4. Click to check the box next to Show map, check-ins and star ratings on the Page
  5. Click Save Changes

People can check in at Pages with locations when they're nearby. Even if you've never made a Page for your business, people may still be able to check in there by creating a new location when they check in.

If you find duplicate Pages for your business when you search for it, you may be seeing Pages for the locations people made when they checked in. Once you create an official Page for your business, you can claim and merge duplicates to keep the people who like your Page and check-ins in one place.

A Facebook Page may exist for your business even if you or someone else from your business didn't create it. This happens for a variety of reasons. For example, when someone checks into a place that doesn't already have a Page, a new Page is created to represent the location.

If you're the official representative of an organization, business, celebrity or brand and someone else has created a Page for it, you can report the Page. If no one is managing the Page, you can request to claim it. From the Page you want to claim:

  1. Click and select Is this your business?
  2. Click to check the box next to I am an official representative of [Page Name] and click Continue.
  3. Enter information about your relationship with the business and click Continue.
  4. Verify your connection to the business by Email or Documentation:
    • Email: Choose this option if you have an email address associated with your Facebook account that's officially issued to you by your business. Email addresses from generic providers like Yahoo! or Gmail will not be accepted. The email address should correspond to your business's name (ex: jane.doe@acmeproducts.com).
    • Documentation: Choose this option to upload a scanned copy or photo of an official document that shows your business's name and address (ex: phone bill, business license, business tax file or articles of incorporation).
  5. Click Submit.

Please allow up to one week for your request to be reviewed. If your request is accepted, you'll become an admin of the Page.

Once you've claimed your Page, you may be able to merge it with any duplicate Pages that you have. The Pages must represent the same thing and have similar names to be eligible for merging. If the Pages have physical locations, make sure the addresses are the same.

A Page needs to have an address and category listed to appear as a nearby place. Results are personalized and ranked by each person's unique connections on Facebook. Places that are more personally connected to people who use Facebook are ranked higher. If someone wants to find restaurants in a particular city, places their friends have recommended, rated or checked in to will be displayed higher. Strengthening your Page's connections and making sure your basic information is up to date will help people find your business.

Your Page's star rating is the average of all star ratings that your Page has received. Keep in mind that when someone adds a rating, they can select an audience. For example, if they add a star rating and select Friends as the audience, only their friends can see their rating. This means that you may not be able to see every star rating on your Page. All star ratings are included in your Page's overall rating regardless of the audience that's selected.

To see the breakdown of your Page's star ratings, go to your Page and hover over the stars.
