Some RSS feeds only provide the most recent blog posts. If your feed is only giving recent info, Facebook will not be able to import the old posts. Facebook does not scrape text from external pages; it has to be fed in. As an alternative, you can copy and paste the text into a new note.

Facebook is probably not able to import your blog because of a privacy setting on your account. Blogs written from sources with restricted viewing will not export to Facebook. If you would like to import your blog, you will need to change this privacy setting to something less restrictive.

Facebook Connect

Facebook Connect

You do all sorts of interesting things on the internet. Many of these interesting things happen within Facebook, which is why we created News Feed—to let your friends know what you're up to on the site.

But what about interesting things that you do on other sites? Maybe you commented on a blog or dugg an article on Digg. Maybe you put up something for auction on eBay, or found a video you love and wanted to share it. Wouldn’t it be nice if when you were on another site, you could easily find your friends on that site and see what they are doing there, just like you can on Facebook?

This is why we've created "Facebook Connect." When you visit sites that support Facebook Connect, you can choose to "Connect" your Facebook account to those sites. By connecting your Facebook account to a website, you will share some of your profile information with that site (so there’s no need to create another profile!), find and interact with your friends on that site, and be able to publish stories about actions you took on that site into your Wall, and potentially into the News Feeds of your friends.

Facebook Connect works a lot like authorizing an application on Facebook. You have complete control over your information, who sees it, and what information is published back into your Wall on Facebook. You can always choose when a story gets published to your Wall, and if you do not want a Facebook Connect site to publish a story for you, it's easy to opt-out at any time. Sites do not have access to your information unless you or one of your friends explicitly "connect" to that site, and your privacy settings are always obeyed.

Automatic authentication is a very lightweight authentication model that replaced the concept of "adding" Platform applications. It was announced on the developers blog.

Automatic authentication means that if a user visits an application canvas page (whether it's an FBML- or iframe-based canvas page), Facebook will pass that visitor's user ID to the application, even if the user has not authorized the application. The UID also gets passed when a user interacts with another user's application tab.

The user ID is passed along to canvas pages as the fb_sig_canvas_user parameter. You can access it from the new version of the PHP client using: $fb->get_canvas_user();

More information is available here: http://wiki.developers.facebook.com/index.php/Automatic_Authentication

No. Data you collect directly from users (see "Independent Data") "belongs" to your app and is not subject to Facebook's data storage policy. However, any such data must be typed or uploaded to your app directly by users. If you pull user data from the API, it always remains subject to Facebook’s data policy. The policy does allow for certain exceptions, but those can only be authorized by users through standard Facebook controls (which currently aren't available), or through Facebook's written permission. The Publisher lets you share content on Facebook. It is located at the top of both your home page and your Profile page. Both locations offer the same functionalities.

Typing in the Publisher text box and clicking "Share" updates your status. Clicking inside the text box displays additional types of content that you can share:
  • Link (add a web address to external content)
  • Photos (upload a photo, create an album, or take a webcam photo)
  • Video (upload a video or record a webcam video)
  • Note (add from Facebook’s Notes application)
  • Import (add external blogs or RSS feeds)
  • Gifts (add from Facebook’s Gift Shop)
Once you have added content, you will still need to click "Share" in order to publish a story. To exit the submenu for a specific type of content, simply click the "X" in the upper-right corner of the Publisher box.

If you type in the Publisher box and then add content (e.g., a link or a video), the text will appear as a comment above the content you have shared. It will not appear as a new status update or replace your current status.
