Once a user has authorized an application or connected with a website, they can add a Profile Box or Profile Tab to their profile. But to do this, your application must provide support for profile boxes and/or profile tabs.

Profile Boxes can appear on either the left-hand side of the wall/info tabs on a user profile, or within the Boxes tab. Users can add these from within your application or website via the fb:add-section-button FBML tag. Your application must first set the profile calling the method profile.setFBML. This method is also used to update the profile box for the user. Profile Tabs are manually added by the user to their profile via the "+" shown when the user is viewing their profile. This list will only show tabs for applications that the user has authorized. You must specify a URL for the application tab in the developer app for it to appear in this list. A tab is basically a full page that displays content from your application for the user to share with their friends on their profile. The changes announced today do not affect any canvas page or canvas page URLs. Canvas page URLs will continue to live on the domain http://apps.facebook.com at their current URLs. At the present time, the new username-specific URLs cannot point to canvas pages.

Every Facebook Page or application profile that has more than 1,000 fans as of May 31, 2009, can get one username-specific URL associated with the page. If there are multiple administrators of a Page, the first username selected by any one of the administrators will be associated with the page. For your application profile, we recommend you choose a username that closely matches the name of your application. For a Facebook Page you maintain to promote your development company, you might choose your company name as your username.

You can sign up for a username starting at 12:01 a.m. EDT on Saturday, June 13, 2009, by visiting www.facebook.com/username. After selecting one for your application or company name, you will see a green check mark indicating that the name is available before you actually claim it. In some cases, your desired username may not be available because someone has already selected it or because we've reserved certain names that have been brought to our attention in an effort to help third parties protect their intellectual property and other rights. In order to upload music to your Page, we need you to submit a valid form of identification that identifies you, the admin of the Page. By submitting a valid form of identification you are confirming that you either own the copyright to the content you will be uploading or that you are authorized by the copyright owner to upload that copyrighted content to your Page.

Please note that you can black out any sensitive information on your identification if you wish, other than your name and picture. We currently only accept photo passports, school IDs, and drivers licenses. If you do not wish to upload a form of identification, you will not be able to upload music.

Yes, you can create a business account. To create a business account, follow the steps below:

1. Create a Facebook Page by clicking here.
2. After entering the required information, you will be prompted to log in to an existing Facebook account or create a new one. If you do not currently have a Facebook account, please select "I do not have a Facebook account."
3. Enter your email address and date of birth.

It’s not currently possible to edit the name of a Page. If you would like to change your Page name, you will need to delete your Page and recreate it. The Facebook team isn't able to change Page names for you.

There is no limit to the number of admins a Page can have.

To appoint other users as Page Admins, please select the ‘Edit Admins’ option when you are viewing the Page you currently administer. Simply choose the names of any users on your friends list that you would like to add as Admins. These users will then be able to help you manage the Page. Every Admin can manage the Page from their own Facebook account using the ‘Page Manager’ application. If the individual you wish to invite to admin your Page is not presently a member of Facebook, simply type their email address in the "Reqest Admins via Email". They can then register for the site and will be able to accept the admin request as soon as they join Facebook.

The information fields that are available for you to write in are determined by the Page category that you selected when you first set up the Page. You aren't able to change the category of your Page after you've created it, so if you would like different fields, you'll need to delete your Page and create a new one.

Unfortunately, we do not yet provide notifications of activity on your Page. In the future we may provide alerts for certain activities on the Page.

Business accounts are designed for individuals who only want to use the site to administer Pages and their ad campaigns. For this reason, business accounts do not have the same functionality as personal accounts. Business accounts have limited access to information on the site. An individual with a business account can view all the Pages and Social Ads that they have created, however they will not be able to view the profiles of users on the site or other content on the site that does not live on the Pages they administer. In addition, business accounts cannot be found in search and cannot send or receive friend requests.

If you wish to manage ads for multiple clients, you will need to do so from one account. We suggest you restrict all ads for each client to separate campaigns. Each business account or personal account on the site should only be used by one individual. This individual should be the owner of the email address used as the login email address for the account.

A Page can have multiple administrators. Each Page administrator will need to have their own business account or personal account. Every admin can manage the Page from their own Facebook account using the "Page Manager" application that will appear in the left hand column of the Applications section once they become an admin for a Page. Every admin has equal access to and the same abilities as the other admins for a Page, however the original creator of the Page may never be removed by other Page admins.

If you have a business account, you will be able to view and edit all of your Pages and Ads created with that account. You can take any action on the Pages you administer, including editing your Page information or adding Page content such as photos, videos, and events. You can also view all the statistics related to both your Pages and your ads.

You will not, however, be able to view the profile information of any other users on the site, or add any other applications to your account. Your account will not be visible in search and other users on the site will not be able to find you and add you as a friend.

Facebook Ads for Pages and Events allow users to engage with your ads the same way they interact with other content on Facebook – without leaving the page they are viewing. Ads for Pages include a "Become a fan" link, while ads for Facebook Events include an "RSVP" link. Users who view these ads can connect with your Pages and Events from the ad itself, automatically creating a story on the user’s profile page and possibly even their friends’ home page Highlights, generating free distribution for you.

You can choose to include a "Become a Fan" link when you create a Facebook Ad for a Page. This will allow users to connect with your Page directly from the ad, without interrupting their Facebook experience. They'll still be able to click on your ad and view the Page directly as well. To set up ads with a "Become a fan" link, click "Promote Page with an Ad" when viewing any Page you manage, and this option will be automatically added to the ad creative. Alternatively, you can create ads with this fan link when you choose to advertise your Page through the normal ad creation page.

If you'd like to advertise an Event you've created on Facebook, you can now also choose to let users RSVP directly from the ad. To do so, simply choose to advertise your Event from the Event page itself, or from the ad creation page as above.

You can choose to include an RSVP link when you create a Facebook Ad for an Event. This will allow users to connect with your Event directly from the ad, without interrupting their Facebook experience. They'll still be able to click on your ad and view the Event directly as well. To set up Event ads with an RSVP link, click "Promote Event with an Ad" when viewing any Event you manage, and this option will be automatically added to the ad creative. Alternatively, you can create ads with this link when you choose to advertise your Event through the normal ad creation page.

If you'd like to advertise a Page you manage on Facebook, you can now also choose to let users "Become a fan" directly from the ad. To do so, simply choose to advertise your Page from the Page itself, or from the ad creation page as above.

As with all Facebook Ads, you will bid for Facebook Ads for Pages and Events on a per-click (CPC) or per-impression (CPM) basis. You will never pay more than your maximum CPC or CPM bid. If you choose to pay per click (CPC), this will include clicks on your title, image, or ad body, and clicks on the "Become a Fan" link or "Yes" and "Maybe" RSVPs. You will not be charged when a user clicks on their friends’ names appearing with the ad, or for incomplete or "No" RSVPs.

If you choose to promote your Page or Event with an ad, we require you to use the Page or Event name as your ad title. If you'd like to change the title of your ad, you won't be able to include friend actions with your ad. We require advertisers use the name of their Page or Event as their ad title so that users are clearly aware of what they're engaging with when they become a fan or RSVP to an Event from within the ad.

No, friend actions can only be used to promote content within Facebook. This ensures users are clearly aware of the actions they're taking with your ad.

Users can only have one username for their personal profile. Similarly, Facebook Page administrators can only have one username for each Page.

Once you have claimed a username by clicking the "Confirm" button after checking for a username's availability, it is not possible to transfer your username to a different account on Facebook. Additionally, when an account is removed from the site, its username will not be made available. Facebook does this for security reasons.

You should make sure it is something you like and that it’s appropriate for friends, family, co-workers, and anyone else who might use it to find you.

No. Your username will adhere to the privacy settings you created for your profile.

Yes. People can set one and only one username for their personal profile. Similarly, Facebook Page administrators can only have one and only one username for each Page they administer.

Please make sure that the email associated with your account is secure. If you're having trouble logging in with your normal email and password, try resetting your password using the link on the login page. An email will be sent to you with steps for completing the process. If the email on your account has been changed, or if you are unable to access your profile, please send include information about the account in your report so we can look into it further and hopefully restore access.

If you're worried about who can see you and what they can see, remember that you can edit your privacy settings as you see fit from the Privacy Settings page.

To deactivate your account, navigate to the "Settings" tab on the Account page. Deactivation will remove your profile and content associated with your account from Facebook. In addition, users will not be able to search for you or view any of your information.

If you’d like to come back to Facebook anytime after you’ve deactivated your account, you can reactivate your account by logging in with your email and password. Your profile will be restored in its entirety (friends, photos, interests, etc.). Remember that you will need to have access to the login email address on the account in order to reactivate it.

If you have received a Facebook reactivation email in error, it is possible that another person has attempted to log in using your email address and password. We recommend that you reset your password to further secure your account. The password you select should be unique, complex, and kept entirely to yourself. You should also make sure that any email addresses associated with your account are secure. Remember that anyone who can read your email can probably also access your Facebook account.

If you deactivate your account from the "Deactivate Account" section on the Account page, your profile and all information associated with it are immediately made inaccessible to other Facebook users. What this means is that you effectively disappear from the Facebook service. However, if you want to reactivate at some point, we do save your profile information (friends, photos, interests, etc.), and your account will look just the way it did when you deactivated if you decide to reactivate it. Many users deactivate their accounts for temporary reasons and expect their information to be there when they return to the service.

If you do not think you will use Facebook again and would like your account deleted, please keep in mind that you will not be able to reactivate your account or retrieve any of the content or information you have added. If you would like your account permanently deleted with no option for recovery, log in to your account and then submit your request by clicking here.

If you are currently unable to access your account, you will need to reset your password in order to log in. In order to do so, click the "Forgot your password?" link that appears above the field where you would normally enter your password. Once you’ve followed the instructions to reset your password and can log in, you can deactivate or delete your account using the steps outlined above.

Once you have submitted a request to permanently delete your account, no further action is required on your end. Our system delays the deletion process in case you change your mind and no longer want to permanently delete your account. Note that logging in to your account again will undo a pending deletion request.

Once your account is permanently deleted, there is no way to undo this action. You will not be able to reactivate the account or retrieve any of the content or information you have added to it.

When a user passes away, we memorialize their account to protect their privacy. Memorializing an account removes certain sensitive information (e.g., status updates and contact information) and sets privacy so that only confirmed friends can see the profile or locate it in search. The Wall remains so that friends and family can leave posts in remembrance. Memorializing an account also prevents all login access to it.

It is possible that malicious software was downloaded to your friend's computer or that their login information was phished in an attempt to send spam from their profile. We would like to investigate this issue further, but unfortunately, we cannot release information regarding a user’s account to anyone but the account holder.

We are currently working with people whose accounts have been affected by money transfer scams

The money transfer scam is characterized by cybercriminals using Facebook in an attempt to trick your friends into sending them money. Most frequently, these criminals will gain control of a Facebook account, and use the Chat or Status features to claim that you are stuck in a far away location and in need of financial assistance.

It is possible that your email account was compromised as well, as obtaining access to a victim’s email is one of the primary ways these cybercriminals have been operating. Please take the following steps to ensure the security of your Facebook account:

1. Select a unique and complex password for your Facebook account and keep this entirely to yourself. You can do this from the Account Settings page of your Facebook account or by using the "Forgot Password" link on the login page.



2. Select a new, unique password for any email address associated with your account, making sure to avoid using the same password for any account.



3. Verify that you control all of the email addresses associated with your account on the Contact Email section at:

4. Add a security question to your account from the Account Settings page if you have not done so already.

2. Reset password: From the Account Setting page, you will need to create a new password. Be sure to use a different password than you use for other sites or services, made up of a complex string of numbers, letters, and punctuation marks that is at least six characters in length. Do not use words found in the dictionary.


3. Never click suspicious links: It is possible that your friends could unwillingly send spam, viruses, or malware through Facebook if their accounts are infected. Do not click this material and do not run any ".exe" files on your computer without knowing what they are. Also, be sure to use the most current version of your browser as they contain important security warnings and protection features. Current versions of Firefox and Internet Explorer warn you if you have navigated to a suspected phishing site, and we recommend that you upgrade your browser to the most current version. You can also find more information about phishing and how to avoid it at http://www.antiphishing.org/consumer_recs.html and http://onguardonline.gov/phishing.html.
   
   Phishing is an online attempt to trick a user by pretending to be an official login page or an official email from an organization that you would have an account with, such as a bank or an email provider, in order to obtain a user’s login and account information. In the case of a phishing login page, the login page may look identical to the login page you would normally go to, but the website does not belong to the organization you have an account with (the URL web address of the website should reflect this). In the case of a phishing email, the email may look like an email you would get from the organization you have an account with and get emails from, but the link in the email that it directs you to takes you to the above phishing login page, rather than a legitimate login page for that organization.
   
   To prevent your account information from being obtained in a phishing scheme, only log in to legitimate pages of the websites you have an account with. For example, "www.facebook.example.com" is not a legitimate Facebook page on the "www.facebook.com" domain, but "www.facebook.com/example" is a legitimate Facebook page because it has the "facebook.com" domain. When in doubt, you can always just type in "facebook.com" into your browser to return to the legitimate Facebook site.

If you are still unable to access your profile, please send us more information regarding the issue so we can investigate. Please submit your report here.

Make sure that when you access the site, you always log in from a legitimate facebook.com domain. A good rule of thumb is if a URL ends in facebook.com, it is owned by Facebook. For example, "en-gb.facebook.com" ends in facebook.com and is therefore safe and legitimate.

When in doubt, just type "facebook.com" into your browser's address field. It's a good idea to bookmark the facebook.com address so that you don't have to enter it manually.

Other URLs that look like Facebook but do not follow this criterion could be illegitimate phishing websites. Never submit your login credentials to a site that looks suspicious.

If you deactivate your account from the "Deactivate Account" section on the Account page, your profile and all information associated with it are immediately made inaccessible to other Facebook users. What this means is that you effectively disappear from the Facebook service. To set your language, go to the bottom of the page you are on and click the current language in the left corner. You may then select your language from the menu that appears.

You can also update your language by going to the Account page, and then the "Language" tab there.

To help people who know you by another name find you in Search, Facebook allows you to display the name entered in your "Full Alternate Name" field on your profile.

To display your alternate name on your profile, follow the steps below:

1. Select "Account Settings" from the Settings drop-down menu.
2. Click on "change" in the "Name" section.
3. Under the "Full Alternate Name" field, check the box that allows you to "Also display on my profile and in search results."
4. Click the "Change Alternate Name" button.

To edit your graduation year, simply go to the "Networks" tab of the Account page. If you click on the "Edit Info" link to the right of your school, you will be given the option to edit your Class Year.

To change your school status, simply go to the "Networks" tab of the Account page. If you click on the "Edit Info" link to the right of your school, you will be given the option to edit your School Status.

Facebook does not allow you to merge accounts. You need to copy your profile content (e.g. photos, notes, etc.) and add it manually to your more active account. Unfortunately, there will be some things you cannot transfer such as Friends and Wall posts. Once you have moved all information onto a single account, please deactivate your old account from the 'Settings' tab of the Account page. Afterward you can add email addresses and networks to your new account from the Account page. Please note that maintaining multiple accounts is a violation of Facebook's Terms of Use.

There are four main ways to link external content to your profile:

• Click "Share Link" in the Publisher, which is located on your home page and on your profile. Enter a URL from an external site into the bar, and select the "Preview" link. Make changes if necessary and click "Post."
• Go to the Links page, enter a URL from an external site into the box in the right sidebar, and click "Post." Make changes if necessary, and select "Post."
• Find "Share on Facebook" links on partner websites. Clicking on those links will generate a Share Box in a pop up window, where you can select "Post to Profile" and click "Post."
• Go to the Links page and drag the "Share on Facebook" bookmarlet to your browser’s bookmarks bar. Whenever you are on a site and find something you'd like to share, click on the bookmarklet, select "Post to Profile, and click "Post."

To edit the title or description of a link you're posting, simply click on the preview of the title or description that you see after you click on "Preview" and before you click on "Post."

If a preview is not displaying correctly for your URL, you may need to contact the webmaster of the site you are trying to share to check whether it meets Facebook's requirements.

In order to generate a Share preview successfully, a website must include the following three meta tags in its source HTML:

<meta name="title" content="Article headline here" />
<meta name="description" content="Article summary here" />
<link rel="image_src" href="http://www.example.com" />

Please make sure that this site includes these tags in the section of its HTML. Also, note that these tags are case-sensitive and URLs must be absolute. For more information, click the "How do I make sure the Share Preview works?" link at the bottom of http://www.facebook.com/share_partners.php.

If you have determined that this site includes all of the necessary metatags but it is still not generating the correct preview, please submit a report here.

To post content from Facebook on your profile, follow the steps below:

1. Click the "Share" link beneath any item.
2. Select the Post to Profile tab.
3. Click the "Post" button.

Selecting this option will post the content and any comments you have made to the "Links" section of your profile. Please note that the owner’s privacy settings will still apply to this content.

To ensure that links are published when you click "Share", please verify that you have allowed the Links application to publish these stories. To check, follow the steps below:

1. Go to the Application Settings page, accessible from the Settings tab at the top of any Facebook page.
2. Click "Edit Settings" to the right of the Links application.
3. Click the Additional Permissions tab.
4. Make sure that the "Publish to streams" box is checked.

Additionally, please make sure that your "Status and links" privacy setting allows your friends to view your status and shared links. You can adjust this setting from the "Profile" section of your Privacy Settings page.

To control who can see your links, follow these steps:

1. Select the Application Settings page from the Settings dropdown menu.
2. Click "Edit Settings" next to Links.
3. Go to the Profile tab.
4. Adjust the Box and Privacy settings.
5. Click "Okay."

To delete a link, follow the steps below:

1. Go to the Links page.
2. Click "My Links."
3. Click the "X" in the top right corner of any item.
4. Select "Delete Item ."

This will permanently delete the link from your account and profile page.

Unfortunately, this functionality is not currently available. It is not possible to edit the description of a shared link after it has been posted.

Group admins can select whether links can be posted to a group.

If you are allowed to post links, follow the directions below:

1. Go to a group.
2. Copy and paste the web address (URL) in the Links section of the group’s page.
3. Click "Post."

If this is an open group, the links will be visible to everyone who views the group. The links posted on closed and secret groups are only visible to other members. Please remember that admins have the ability to remove links that they do not want to be associated with their groups.

Event admins can select whether links can be posted to an event.

If you are allowed to post links, follow the directions below:

1. Go to an event.
2. Copy and paste the web address (URL) in the Links section of the event’s page.
3. Click "Post."

If this is an open event, the links will be visible to everyone who views the event. The links posted on closed and secret events are only visible to other members. Please remember that admins have the ability to remove links that they do not want to be associated with their events.

The ability to embed HTML using the Links application is not currently available.

The ability to create an album of links that you’ve shared is not currently available.

Pages are for organizations, businesses, celebrities, and bands to broadcast great information to fans in an official, public manner. Like profiles, they can be enhanced with applications that help the entity communicate with and engage their fans, and capture new audiences virally through their fans' recommendations to their friends.

You can create and manage a Facebook Page for your organization from your personal account. You can create a Page here. Please note that only the official representative of an organization, business, celebrity, or band is permitted to create a Page.

If you see a Page that interests you – either on a friend’s profile or in a News Feed story – you can click on the link to that particular Page to learn more. Once on the Page, you click the "Become a Fan" button that appears next to the Page name.

You can also search for Pages by visiting our Pages Directory. You can browse to easily see your Pages, your friends' Pages, and view all Pages on the site.

Lastly, when you search for a term or name on Facebook, you can filter the results to show only Pages by clicking the "Pages" link in the left column. Each Page search result will show a "Become a Fan" link to its right.

You can remove yourself as a fan of a Page by taking the following steps:

1. Navigate to the Page by entering its name into the search bar in the upper right corner.
2. Click the "Remove me from Fans" link located on the lower left hand side of the screen.

You can become a fan of up to 500 Pages.

Any Page with content that is age sensitive will not be available to those who do not meet that age requirement.

The Pages that you become a fan of will be displayed on the bottom of the Info tab of your profile. If your search visibility allows Pages to be displayed to non-friends, they will also see this information when they find you in search. You can control this from the Search section of your Privacy Settings page.

We currently do not allow users to hide the pages they are fans of from their friends. However, we plan to provide more robust privacy controls for Pages in the future.

Profiles represent individuals and must be held under an individual name, while Pages allow an organization, business, celebrity, or band to maintain a professional presence on Facebook. You may only create Facebook Pages to represent real organizations of which you are an authorized representative. Fans of your Page won't be able to see that you are the Page admin or have any access to your personal account.

Pages can only be created to represent a real organization, business, celebrity, or band, and may only be created by an official representative of that entity. Groups can be created by any user and about any topic, as a space for users to share their opinions and interest in that subject. Groups can be kept closed or secret, whereas Pages are intended to help an entity communicate publicly.

Pages also allow people to maintain a personal-professional distinction on Facebook. If you're a group admin, your name will appear on that group, while Pages will never display their admins' names. Additionally, when you take actions on your group, such as posting on your group's wall, these actions will appear to come from you as an individual. However, if you post or take other actions on a Page you own, it will appear to come from the Page.

You can create a Page using this form or create a group here.

The Page administrators will decide which applications they wish to include on their Page. They can add content to their Page, as well as allow their fans to add content to any or all of the applications on their Page.

When you become a fan of the Page, a story will be published on your Wall and may be published in your friends’ News Feeds. Any action that you take on a Page will abide by the privacy settings you currently have set for News Feed and Wall. You can adjust these settings at any time by visiting the News Feed and Wall section of your Privacy Settings page.

Pages cannot see the profiles of their fans. They can only see the profile photo and name of each of their fans. In addition, Pages do not receive a News Feed with information about what their fans are doing. Pages can communicate with their fans through updates in your Inbox, but they have no additional access to your personal information.

The fans of your Pages will not be able to see or access to your personal profile. Any actions that you take as a Page administrator on your Page will show the Page’s name as the actor and not your personal name.

A Page can have multiple administrators. Each Page admin will need their own business account or personal profile. Only the official representative of an artist, business, or brand may create a Facebook Page. The Page creator can then add other admins to help manage the Page. Each Page admin can edit the Page from their own accounts by selecting the "Ads and Pages" icon from the Applications menu in the lower left corner of any Facebook page. The creator has the power to add and remove other Page admins. Admins cannot, however, remove the creator of the Page.

You can choose to stop receiving updates from a Page at any time by clicking the "Unsubscribe" link that appears when you view the individual update. Additionally, you can click on the "Edit Updates Settings" link found in the bottom right corner of the Updates tab in your Inbox.

To report a Page for content that violates our Statement of Rights and Responsibilities, please click on the "Report this Page" link found in the bottom, left corner of every Page.

You can manage your stored credit cards on Facebook by going to the Account page and scrolling to the "Manage Credit Cards" section.

Because the Gifts application was created by Facebook, you will not be able to completely remove it from your account. However, you can remove all integration points for it. This will remove Gifts from your bookmarks, and remove any profile tabs or boxes. It won't prevent users from sending you gifts, but only your friends can send you gifts. To do this, please take the following steps:

1. Select the "Edit" link from the Applications menu in the bottom left corner of any Facebook page.

2. On the following page, find the Gifts application and click "X".

3. In the window that appears, click "Remove" to confirm the removal of that application from your profile, bookmarks, and the Applications page.

At this time, it’s not possible to edit a Page category. If you would like to change the category, you will need to delete your current Page and create another one under the correct category.

If you click on the "Create Your Profile" button and fill out the additional information, you will create a personal account to correspond with your business account. Once this final registration step is complete, these changes cannot be reverted. Deactivating your personal account will cause you to loose access to any Pages and Social Ads you've created.

After you have created a personal account, you can manage all the Pages and Socials Ads you’ve created by selecting "Ads and Pages" from the Applications menu, which is located on the bottom right side of your home page. The fans of your Pages will not be able to view or access to your personal profile. Any actions that you take as a Page administrator on your Page will show the Page’s name as the actor and not your personal name. However, if you wish to restrict your privacy so that other Facebook members cannot find you in search or add you as a friend, you can do so by clicking on "privacy" at the top any Facebook page.

There is currently no way to take away admin status from the creator of a Page. However, Page admins can add or remove other admins by following these steps:

1. Click the "Edit Page" link below the Page’s photo.
2. On the right hand side, click the "Add" link in the Admin section.
3. Select the friend you would like to add as an admin.

Some users are currently not seeing their Pages in Search results. Please report this issue here.

Some users are currently not seeing the Pages section on their Info tab. We hope to resolve this issue as soon as possible. Please report this issue here.

If you are seeing a message that your Page is unavailable right now, this is a temporary result of site maintenance, and is not related to the content of your group or event. Please try accessing it in a few hours, when it should be available again with all content restored. You can also report the issue here.

When a Page admin comments on a fan’s photo, the comment may appear as if it was posted from the admin’s personal Facebook account. No further reports of this issue are needed.

When a Page admin "Likes" a post on their Page, the post may appear as if "Liked" from the Page admin's personal account. No further reports of this issue are needed.

You can reset your password by clicking here. If you know your password and would like to change it, you can change it from the "Settings" tab on the Account page.

You can change your login email address at any time in the Settings tab of the Account page. Please note that you can log in with any email address you have added to your account. However, if you no longer have access to an email address associated with your Facebook account, you will need to contact your email service provider in order to regain access to that address.

You can reactivate your account at any time by logging in with your login email address and password. If you're experiencing login problems, please view the frequently asked questions listed above.

"Site Maintenance" usually means that we're making an improvement to the database that your account is stored on. While we're doing this, you will not be able to access your account. In most instances, this maintenance will last only a few hours. Please note:

• After the maintenance is over, you will still be able to login with the same password.
• Your profile and account will not be affected by the maintenance.
• We don't do site maintenance on all accounts at the same time, so it is possible that some of your friends will be able to access the site while your account is unavailable.
• It is not necessary to contact us about Site Maintenance.
• If your maintenance lasts longer than 24 hours, please follow these instructions to clear your browser's cache and cookies.

Facebook sends a notification to every email address associated with an account when someone has been able to register one of the addresses on the account. This happens when a person clicks on a link sent to the email address when creating a new account, or when adding the address to an existing account.

If you still own the email address in question, you can add it back to your account by going to the "Settings" tab on the Account page and following the same process. You may want to change the password for the email address, as someone else may have been able to access it in order to confirm the contact change.

If you no longer own the address, you will not be able to add it back to your account. If you still own the email address but are unable to access it, please contact your email provider for assistance with regaining access to the address.

No. After you graduate you will still have access to Facebook. However, we strongly recommend that you keep your contact email address current as it is the only way we can get in touch with you. If your contact email address is not current, you can update it from the "Settings" tab on the Account page.

You may also add a work network to your account if your organization utilizes an email address that we support. You can add this affiliation from the "Networks" tab of the Account page.

Some users are seeing their profiles display zero friends. They may also have difficulty viewing their friends’ profiles or seeing their friends in News Feed. We are aware of this issue and hope to have it resolved soon. If you would like to submit a report, please click here.

Some users are seeing an issue where clicking on a friend request refreshes the home page. If you are seeing this on the site, please report it here.

Please make sure that you received this request at an email address that is listed on your account. If the request was sent to a different email address then it will not show in your account. Feel free to send the other person a friend request from your account. Alternatively, you could ask them to request you as a friend again at the appropriate email address.

In addition, if someone deactivates his or her account, you will not see the friend request on your Home page.

The security of your account may have been compromised. Please select a unique and complex password that is different from other passwords that you use on the Internet, and keep this information completely to yourself. You can reset your password by using the "Change Password" field on the Account page.

You should also make sure that all email addresses associated with your account are secure. Remember that anyone who can read your email may be able to also access your Facebook account. Additionally, please make sure that you log out of your Facebook account after each use and "quit" your browser when you’re done using the site. Never check the "Keep me logged in" box when logging in from a public computer or someone else’s mobile device, as this will keep you logged in even after you close your browser window.

Finally, please make sure that when you access the site, you always log in from a legitimate Facebook page with "facebook.com" in the domain part of the URL (web address). For more information about protecting your account, please visit the Facebook Security Page.

It is possible that the coupon code you are trying to use is invalid, may have already been used, or has expired. Please make sure you've read the terms, conditions or procedures applicable to your credit. If these situations do not apply please contact us using this form.

Please login to your Facebook advertising account by clicking on the "Ads and Pages" link in the Applications column. Click on the "Billing" tab at the top of the Ads Manager. Then click on the "Funding Sources" tab on the Billing Summary page. Click on the "Enter Coupon Code" and enter your coupon code as shown.

Coupon credits cannot be applied to charges you accrued before you added the coupon to your account. Only new charges will be deducted from the coupon.

The public search listing shows the profile picture thumbnail and links to interact with you on Facebook. People will have to register in order to message or add you as a friend. You can also restrict what information shows in your public listing by going to the Search privacy page and editing the section called "How Can People Contact You?" For instance, if you do not want your profile picture to be shown, you can uncheck that box.

Facebook sends a notification to every email address associated with an account when someone has been able to register one of the addresses on the account. This happens when a person clicks on a link sent to the email address when creating a new account, or when adding the address to an existing account.

If you still own the email address in question, you can add it back to your account by going to the "Settings" tab on the Account page and following the same process. Facebook takes appropriate precautions to protect users' information. Your account information is located on a secured server behind a firewall. When you enter sensitive information (such as a credit card number or your password), we encrypt that information using secure socket layer technology (SSL). Facebook always posts to a secure page when users are logging in and employs industry standard encryption. This may not always be apparent from the web address (URL), but rest assured that our logins are secure.

It's not possible to block Facebook ads from showing on pages within your account.

Facebook ads may be targeted by your location, sex, age, relationship status, professional or educational history, or to keywords in your profile and the Pages and groups you're involved in. Including more content on your profile that relates to your interests may improve the relevance or focus of the Facebook Ads you're seeing. We're constantly working to improve our systems to show you the most interesting ads based on the information you've provided.

You can view today’s events and birthdays in the Events section on the right-hand sidebar of your home page. This section is located beneath Highlights. Click the "See All" link to see upcoming events and birthdays, friends’ events and past events.

Any pending requests and invites you have will appear in the Requests section on the right sidebar on your home page. This section is located at the very top, above Suggestions. Follow the links to view details, RSVP, or confirm your requests.

Please make sure you have not adjusted your email notification settings from the Notifications tab of the Account page.

Please check your spam/junk email filter to ensure that emails coming from Facebook have not been incorrectly placed in this folder. Be sure to add the "@facebookmail.com" email domain to your email account's safe senders list.

If you are still not receiving emails from Facebook, please contact your ISP (Internet Service Provider) to ensure that they are not blocking email traffic coming from Facebook.

You can setup a contact email address from the Settings tab of the Account page. Follow the simple steps to activate the new email address, and then the address can be used to login. It will also be the address we use to send Facebook notifications.

To control what email notifications Facebook sends to you, simply go to the Notifications tab of the Account Settings page.

If the notification is from an application, you can block any application on Facebook. To block an application, navigate to the application’s about page. At the top right of the page will be a "Block Application" option.

You can view your current email address and add or delete addresses from the Settings tab of the Account Settings page. Your Facebook email notifications will only be sent to the address you designate as your "Contact Email," so be sure this information is accurate.

To change your contact email, just click the "change" link next to Email. Select any other email address you have listed on your account and click the "Change Contact Email" button to finish.

If you would like to add another email address to your account, just enter that new address in the open field next to "New Email." Once you confirm the address, you can go back and set it as your contact email.

If you have a business account, you will be able to view and edit all of your Pages and ads created with that account. You can take any action on the Pages you administer, including editing your Page information or adding Page content such as photos, videos, and events. You can also view all the statistics related to both your Pages and your ads.

You will not, however, be able to view the profile information of any other users or add any other applications to your account. For example, business accounts can't be used to add friends, send messages, or interact with other Pages. Your account will not be visible in search and other users on the site will not be able to find you and add you as a friend.

Please be sure to enter your personal date of birth and not the date your organization was founded when you sign up for your account. By entering your own birthday, we will most likely be able to confirm the creation of your account.

Maintaining multiple accounts, regardless of the purpose, is a violation of Facebook’s Terms of Use. If you already have a personal account, then we cannot allow you to create business accounts for any reason. You can manage all the Pages and Socials Ads that you create on your personal account.

Please keep in mind that the fans of any of the Pages you administer will not have visibility or access to your personal account or profile. Any actions that you take as a Page administrator on your Page will show the Page’s name as the actor and not your personal name.

If you wish to manage ads for multiple clients, you will need to do so from one account. We suggest you restrict all ads for each client to separate campaigns. Unfortunately it is not currently possible to designate separate credit cards for each campaign or to have multiple administrators for the same ad account.

To get started, you will need to first create a Facebook Social Ad or Page. To start this process, please click here. Once you’ve entered in the required information, you will be taken to the "Facebook Login" page and asked if you have a Facebook account. If you do not currently have a Facebook account, then at this point, please select "I do not have a Facebook account." You will then need to enter your email address and date of birth. Please be aware that managing multiple accounts is a serious violation of Facebook’s Terms of Use. If we determine that an individual has more than one account, we reserve the right to terminate all of their accounts.

We believe that rendering a user's profile picture on every page of your Connect site makes for the best implementation so that a user recognizes that they are logged in with their Facebook account. It is required to indicate that the user is logged in with their Facebook account in some way on the page.

When attempting to view certain profiles, some users are seeing an error that says: "The page you requested was not found. You may have clicked an expired link or mistyped the address. Some web addresses are case sensitive." If you would like to submit a report about this issue, please click here.

Your problem is most likely related to your Internet browser. To upgrade your Internet browser, or clear its cache and cookies, please follow these instructions. If you continue to experience this issue after doing so, it’s possible this may be related to antivirus software you have installed on your computer. We recommend that you temporarily turn this software off and see if this resolves the issue. If you continue to experience problems, please send us the name of your anti-virus software. More detailed information will help us investigate the issue further.

The Pages section on the Info tab is not appearing for some users. We are currently working to resolve this issue, no further reports are needed.

Once a user has authorized an application or connected with a website, they can add a Profile Box or Profile Tab to their profile. But to do this, your application must provide support for profile boxes and/or profile tabs.

Profile Boxes can appear on either the left-hand side of the wall/info tabs on a user profile, or within the Boxes tab. Users can add these from within your application or website via the fb:add-section-button FBML tag. Your application must first set the profile calling the method profile.setFBML. This method is also used to update the profile box for the user. Profile Tabs are manually added by the user to their profile via the ""+"" shown when the user is viewing their profile. This list will only show tabs for applications that the user has authorized. You must specify a URL for the application tab in the developer app for it to appear in this list. A tab is basically a full page that displays content from your application for the user to share with their friends on their profile. You do not need to submit your app to the directory in order to add it to your Page. Go to the app profile page, click the "more" link, then "add to page".

If "add to page" isn't there, you haven't enabled your app for Pages, and you'll need to do that first.

You can use any available HTML application (like this one) to put your code directly into a box or tab on your page.

Any application you create yourself can also be added to a page if you have marked its settings as installable to users and Pages.

If you are logged in to Facebook and take an action on an affiliated site, the website will alert you that it has a story it would like to send to your Facebook profile. You can then choose to take the following actions:

1. You can click the ‘Learn More’ link to find out more about that story or edit your privacy settings for these external stories.
2. You can click the ‘This isn’t me’ link if the Facebook account does not match the person using the external site. In this case, Facebook will never publish the story or otherwise share any information with the user’s friends on Facebook.
3. You can click ‘No Thanks’ in which case Facebook will never publish that story or otherwise share any information with your friends on Facebook.
4. You can click 'Close' or simply ignore the notification in which case the story will be sent to Facebook, but will not be published on the site. Next time you navigate to the Facebook Home page after interacting with an affiliate site, you’ll receive a second reminder that the affiliate website would like to publish a story on your behalf. There are three things you can do with this story—approve the story by clicking Okay, remove the story by clicking "Remove", or ignore the entire message by doing nothing. If you approve the story and click "Okay", the story will be published in your Mini-Feed and may appear in your friends' News Feeds. If you remove the story using the "Remove" link next to it, the story will never appear in your Mini-Feed or a friend’s News Feed. If you ignore the whole message, it will go away after a few days and nothing will be published to Mini-Feed or News Feed. However, when you ignore a story, it remains queued, so that the next time you generate a Beacon story, this home page message will have two stories, instead of one.

In this case, unless you have selected to always publish stories from that website from the "External Websites" section of the Privacy page, you will have another chance to remove the story the next time you go to your home page. A home page announcement lets you know that there is a story about to be published, and you can click the "Remove" link next to it. This prevents the story from being published and the story will never appear in your Mini-Feed or a friend’s News Feed.

These stories will not be published in your Mini-Feed or in the News Feeds of your friends. The stories will be removed from your queue of stories and you will not see a notification about those particular stories on your home page again.

When you leave the home page or choose to ignore the home page notification, it will go away after a few days and nothing will be published to Mini-Feed or News Feed. However, when you ignore a story, it remains queued, so that the next time you generate a Beacon story, this home page message will have two stories, instead of one.

Checking the box "Always publish stories sent to my profile from this site" means that you will no longer be notified twice about stories being sent to your profile for that particular site. You will still be notified by a pop-up on the site generating the action, but you will no longer see the second notification on your home page.

The name you enter as your electronic signature should match the name on your account. If you have a business account with no name or profile, or are trying to create an account when you create your Page, please enter your legal first and last name as your electronic signature.

We are currently experiencing an issue with this feature that may result in an error when you try to create your Page. We are working to resolve this issue, reports are no longer needed.

This box is called the Publisher. The Publisher allows you to update your status, add photos, videos and other application content to your own profile. In addition, the Publisher allows you to make Wall posts on your friends' profiles and add other interesting content to their Walls.

The options available in the Publisher will change depending on the applications that you or your friend have authorized.

The pencil icon, also known as the 'edit' icon, allows you to change things on your profile. For example, if you place your mouse cursor over a story, the edit icon will appear to the right of the story. If you click the icon, you will may the option to change the size of the story or remove the story entirely. Not all stories will support resizing.

Yes. You can add family members who do not have Facebook accounts. Once added, their names will appear as black text rather than as blue links.

Currently, you can only add parents, siblings, and children to your profile. These options may be expanded in the future.

Personal accounts are optimized for individuals, not artists, businesses, or brands. Facebook Pages allow artists, businesses, and brands to showcase their work and interact with fans. These pages come pre-installed with custom functionality designed for each category. For example, a band Page has a music player, video player, discography, reviews, tour dates, a discussion board that the artists can take advantage of. Third party developers will also build an array of applications that they will compete for Page Admins to add to their Pages. Facebook Pages are also not subject to a fan limit and can automatically accept fan requests.

Facebook Pages enable artists, businesses and brands to communicate through the viral distribution mechanism that leverages Facebook users’ authentic social connections and rich communication channels, including News Feed, Mini-Feed, and Inbox. Because Facebook’s user profiles are authentic and their connections with other users are real, the social influence of these stories is tremendously powerful.

Users want to know what their friends are listening to and try out their recommendations. Whether it’s playing a track, watching a video, writing on the wall, writing a review, or attending an event, a fan’s interaction with a Page can generate News Feed stories to his friends. Since users can immediately click through to that Page and interact with it, engaging Pages will benefit from a virtuous cycle of user attention. Additionally, Pages will be publicly viewable, so Facebook users searching for a particular artist or company on the World Wide Web will find a presence for that group in an environment they know and trust.

Every Page will appear in search results on Facebook. Users will also display any Page that they fan in their "I'm a Fan of..." box on their profile. Each "I'm a Fan of…" box lists a user’s Pages by Page category. Additionally, all Pages can be found in the Page Directory. You can browse to easily see your Pages, your friends' Pages, and view all Pages on the site.

Powerful reporting and insight tools are provided free to Page Admins. On a cumulative and week-over-week basis, these granular reports will measure reach (e.g., impressions, clicks), viral impact (e.g., fan adds), responder insights (e.g., gender and age), and engagement (e.g., video plays and wall posts) of visitors to the Page. One advantage of using the applications designed by Facebook is the ability to receive these free, regular, detailed updates on the growth of the page.

Page admins now have the ability to see information about their fan base and the fans who interact with their content. For privacy reasons, Facebook will not provide demographic data (such as age and gender) or geographic data (such as country, city, and spoken language) unless there is a significant number of fans in each statistical category. To increase your number of fans and active fans, you may want to write on your Page's Wall, post photos or videos to your Page, or create other content that your fans will find engaging.

An interaction occurs when a fan writes on your Wall, comments on your posts, or likes your content. The total of these actions aggregated over seven days is displayed in this section.

When you create compelling content, your fans may choose to interact with the material by commenting, liking, or writing on your Wall. These fans help to spread your content virally throughout Facebook, as their engagement leads to organic stories being published in their friends' News Feed.

To increase the number of Interactions and improve your Post Quality you may consider:

• Making sure that your posts, whether they are Status Updates, photos, links, or videos, are relevant to your fans. Posting engaging content is the best way to get people to interact with your Page.



• Posting frequently, but not posting an overwhelming amount of content that users may find spammy or burdensome to consume.



• Increasing your total fan base to generate more interactions.

The fan dashboard graph shows trends in fan acquisition and News Feed content distribution:

• Total Fans / Unsubscribers: Total number of fans over time, overlaid with the total number of fans who have chosen to hide your posts in their News Feed (unsubscribe).



• New / Removed Fans: The number of people who have become a fan of your Page or stopped being a fan of your Page.



• Unsubscribes / Re-subscribes: Number of people who have chosen to hide your posts (unsubscribes) in their News Feed, compared to the number of people who have purposely undone that action (re-subscribes).

Please make sure you have not turned off the visibility of the profile box from the Applications page. From this page, select "Profile Settings" on the left to update your application settings related to profile. Please be aware that some applications will never display a profile section (i.e. Events).

Please check the Privacy page’s Profile section to ensure that you have not restricted the visibility of the content, such as restricting who can see your Wall.

Finally, the profile section may not appear if you have not added any content to the application,

If you’d like to move an application in your Boxes tab to another position in your Boxes tab, click and hold the top of the application’s profile box and drag it to a new position on the page. An outline of a new available position will appear as you move the box – release the box over the outline to change the position.

If you’d like to move an application from your Boxes tab to the left-column of your Wall or Info tab, click the pencil icon at the top-right of the application’s profile box. From the following menu, select ‘Move to Wall tab.’ The application will now appear in this column. You can move the application back to the Boxes tab by clicking its pencil icon again and selecting ‘Move to Boxes tab.’ Please note that not all applications will support left-column placement.

You can pick which applications appear on your profile by clicking ‘Applications" at the bottom of any Facebook page, and selecting "edit." From the "edit" page, you will be able to change the visibility of each application on your profile by clicking the "Edit Settings" link.

We no longer support the addition of profile links underneath one's profile picture.

Some users have not been able to log in and are receiving this error message. We are aware of this problem and are working on resolving the issue soon. Please report this issue here.

You will need to be a member of a group before you can add content to it. Also, a group admin may change the setting for who can post photos, videos or links to a group at any time. If you do not see a link to add a certain type of content, it is likely that this setting has been recently adjusted.

While status updates have been removed from the Friends page, they have been added in a separate filter on the home page. If you do not see this filter in your left hand menu immediately, just click the "More" link located beneath the menu.

Some Internet Explorer users are seeing the Facebook footer menu in the middle of the page. For a quick fix, please follow these instructions to upgrade your browser.

There's a setting to control who sees your Wall Posts on the Profile section of the Privacy page. It is most likely on the "No One" setting. You can add your Wall to your profile page by adjusting the setting so that it's no longer on the most restricted level.

When you attempt to add a card to your account we match the address you enter in our system with your credit card billing address. 1. Place your mouse over the upper right corner of your current profile picture or temporary image, and click on the pencil icon that appears.
2. Select "Browse" to find a photo on your computer to upload.
3. Select the photo to upload, check the box certifying that you have the right to distribute the picture and that it is not pornography, and click "upload picture." If the picture is an acceptable size and file type, it will display.

If you have a webcam, you can choose "Show Camera" to take an instant profile picture. Be sure to select "Allow" so that Facebook can access your camera and microphone. Then, click the camera icon to take a picture, and choose "Save Picture" to set it as your profile picture.

You can also set any photo in which you are tagged as your profile picture by viewing the photo and selecting "Make Profile Picture."

If you have a webcam attached to your computer you can use it to add a new profile picture. To use the webcam:

1. Go to your profile.
2. Hover your mouse over your current profile picture and click the "Change Picture" link that appears.
3. On the following page you will have the option to use a webcam if one is available.
4. Click the Camera button at the bottom of the preview image.
5. Smile.
6. Select 'Save Picture' once you are satisfied with the image.

To see a history of all your old profile photos, just go to the Profile page and click on your current profile picture. It will bring you to an album of all your profile photos. When you are viewing your old profile pictures, you will have the option to tag them, add captions, or delete them from the album.

Any user who can see your profile can see the profile pictures you have in this album. To view someone else's old profile pictures, just click on their current profile picture while viewing their profile.

If you want to delete an old profile picture, first view the album by clicking on your current profile picture. When you are viewing the album, you should see an option for Edit Photos at the top of the page. On the edit page, you are given the option to delete any of the images, as well as to tag them or add captions. Once you delete the photo, no one will be able to see it when they view your profile picture album.

The "Thumbnail Version" of your profile picture is used in certain places around the site, such as the upper left hand corner of your application (e.g., photos) pages. To adjust what part of your profile picture serves as the thumbnail, hover your mouse over your current profile picture and click the "Change Picture" link that appears. Next, select the "Edit Thumbnail" option.

When you enter sensitive information (such as a credit card number or your password), we encrypt that information using secure socket layer technology (SSL). Once this is done, only friends will be able to view your name in the list of group members. However, if you still choose to write Wall posts, start discussion topics, or add photos or videos to the group, other members will be able to see that content and determine that you are also a member.

You can customize who can find you in search from the Search section of the Privacy Settings page. You will always have the option not to appear in search listings at all.

Anyone who is able to find you in search will always be able to click on your search listing in order to view your name and networks. You can further control the information that these users see by changing the options underneath the title "Search Result Content." There are five listed options: see your picture, send you a message, view your friend list, add you as a friend, and view the Pages you are a fan of. Un-checking any of these boxes will prevent the user from being able to perform the action.

Please note that you may see a different version of the site than others when you perform searches from your own account. You will always be able to find your profile in search because you can always view your own profile. However, users who do not have this permission will not be able to find your profile using search.

Page admins now have the ability to see information about their fan base and the fans who interact with their content. • Interactions: Total number of comments, Wall posts, and likes.



• Interactions Per Post: Average number of comments, Wall posts, and likes generated by each piece of content you post.



• Post Quality: Score measuring how engaging your content is to Facebook users. A higher Post Quality indicates material that better engages users.



• Posts: Number of posts your Page has made either on the Wall or in video.



• Page Views: Number of times your Page has been viewed by Facebook users.



• Stream CTR / ETR: This graph is a measure of the Click Through Rate and Engagement Rate for your content appearing in the Facebook News Feed. If a user clicks on one of your posts, that will be counted as Stream CTR. If a user likes or comments on one of your posts, that will be counted in the Stream ETR. Please note that Stream data is based on a sample and therefore is an estimate of your Stream CTR and ETR. (Coming soon)



• Media Consumption: This graph tracks how many photo views, audio plays, and video plays your content have received.



• Discussion Posts: Total number of discussion posts written by fans.



• Reviews: Number of times your Page has been rated in the Reviews application.

The Post Quality score measures how engaging your Posts have been to Facebook users over a rolling seven-day window.

Post Quality is an important indicator for how fans gauge your posts. This score is calculated with an algorithm that takes into account your number of posts, total fan interactions received, number of fans, as well as other factors. Post Quality scores can potentially be improved by:

• Making sure that your posts, whether they are Wall posts, photos, or videos, are relevant to your fans. Disseminating interesting and meaningful content is the best way to get people to interact with your Page.



• Not posting an overwhelming amount of low quality content. It is better to provide interesting posts, less frequently than it is to rapidly publish less engaging material.



• Increasing your total fan base to garner more total interactions (create an ad link).

If someone has created an account to impersonate or imitate you, please go to the impostor profile and click "Report this Person" in the left column. Check the "Report this Person" box, choose "Fake Account" as the reason, and add "Impersonating me or someone else" as the report type. Be sure to add a valid web address (URL) leading to the real profile so that we can review the information.

You can report a profile that violates Facebook’s Statement of Rights and Responsibilities by clicking the "Report/Block this Person" link in the left column of the profile, selecting "Fake profile" as the reason, and adding the appropriate information. The following categories of profiles are prohibited on the site:

• Profiles that impersonate you or someone else
• Profiles that use your photos
• Profiles that list a fake name
• Profiles that do not represent a real person
• Profiles that have been hacked

Be sure to choose the correct report type to help us verify the information. Facebook reviews every report we receive in order to determine whether or not the content violates our Statement of Rights and Responsibilities, and will take appropriate action. Rest assured that these reports will be kept confidential.

The "Wall-to-Wall" link is only available for people who are permitted to see the profiles of both individuals. This link allows you to see the history of Wall posts between two people. While it cannot be removed, you can restrict who can view this link on your profile by editing your Wall privacy. To do this, go to the "Profile" section of the Privacy Settings page and scroll down to "Wall Posts."

It is possible that malicious software was downloaded to your friend's computer or that their login information was phished in an attempt to send spam from their profile. We would like to investigate this issue further, but unfortunately, we cannot release information regarding a user’s account to anyone but the account holder. Please tell your friend to visit the Facebook Help Center and contact us.

Keep in mind that only the presentation of the information is changing — no additional information about you or other people is shared outside of what was already available in current search listings.

You can customize who can find you in search from the Search section of the Privacy Settings page. You will always have the option not to appear in search listings at all.

Anyone who is able to find you in search will always be able to click on your search listing in order to view your name and networks. You can further control the information that these users see by changing the options underneath the title "Search Result Content." There are five listed options: see your picture, send you a message, view your friend list, add you as a friend, and view the Pages you are a fan of. Un-checking any of these boxes will prevent the user from being able to perform the action.

Please note that you may see a different version of the site than others when you perform searches from your own account. You will always be able to find your profile in search because you can always view your own profile. However, users who do not have this permission will not be able to find your profile using search.

It depends on the person's privacy settings. From the Search section of the Privacy Settings page, you can adjust your own Search privacy options to be as open or restrictive as you want. In the "Search Visibility" dropdown, you can select any option, ranging from "Everyone" to "Only Friends." By choosing "Customize" you can further control who will be able to find you in search.

From the Search privacy page, you can also establish what people can see about you and how they can interact with your profle when they find you in searches. In the middle of the page, you will see a section called "Search Result Content" with five options. From this section, you can make it so that your profile picture does not appear in your search results. You can also prevent the people who find you in searches from messaging you, adding you as a friend, viewing your friends list, or viewing the Pages you are a fan of. These settings only apply to people who are not permitted to see your profile based on the selection you make in the "Search Visibility" dropdown. Please note that unchecking all of these boxes does not hide you from searches; it just prevents people from taking any action upon the search result.

With recent changes to the site, the friend details that were already established on your account have been converted to Friend Lists. You can filter your view of each Friend List’s stream of activity separately on the home page.

To create and customize your own Friend Lists, please follow these steps:

1. Click the "Create" link that appears beneath the filters on the left side of your home page or your Friends page. Or, click the "Create New List" button from the "All Friends" tab of the Friends page.
2. Type the title of your list and hit enter.
3. Add friends to the list by typing their names into the "Add to List" field or selecting them from the list.
4. Select "Save List" to store your changes.

In addition, if you have more than two Friend Lists, you can easily add or remove friends from lists by using the drop-down menu that appears next to their names on the "All Friends" tab of the Friends page.

The Limited Profile functionality is a type of Friend List. You can limit the privacy settings for any friend list you create. If you had people on your Limited Profile, they have been moved to a new friend list called "Limited Profile," and this friend list has been added to the appropriate places on your privacy settings. For example, if you hid your Wall Posts in your Limited Profile, the new Limited Profile friend list has been placed under the "Except These People" setting for Wall Posts.

You are now able to customize which friends and Friend Lists are (or are not) allowed to view your content. To use these options, select the "Privacy Settings" option from the "Settings" drop-down menu at the top of any Facebook page. You can also review and edit your Friend Lists from the Friends page.

To add someone to your Limited Profile list, follow the steps below:

1. Select "All Friends" from the Friends drop-down menu.
2. Click on the "Limited Profile" Friend List in the left sidebar. If you do not see a "Limited Profile" friend list in this section, you can create one by clicking the "Make a New List" button and then naming the list.
3. Type your friend’s name into the "Add to List" field. You must be friends with a person to add him or her to the Limited Profile list.

To prevent users on this list from seeing certain content, please follow the steps below:

1. Click the "Privacy Settings" option in the Settings drop-down menu at the top of any Facebook page.
2. Go to the Profile section.
3. Select any Profile privacy setting and click "Edit Custom Settings."
4. Enter the name of your limited profile friend list in the "Except These People" section to restrict these users from viewing the profile content you selected.

Your "friends box" will show the thumbnails of six randomly selected friends until you specify otherwise. To edit these settings, simply navigate to your profile page and then click on the pencil icon in the upper right hand corner of the "Friends" box.

The Edit Box that appears will allow you to specify how many friends are displayed and which friends you always want to show. If you want to ensure that friends from certain networks appear, you can select those networks in the "Include friends from" section. Finally, checking the "Show Networks Section" will display a list of all of the networks your friends are in.

Your Friends page displays your Friend List, your Fan of List, and your Connections List. Your Friend List is made up of your friends, your Fan of list is made up of Pages that you have become a fan of, and your Connections list includes both.

To create and customize additional Lists, which can contain both profiles and Pages, please follow these steps:

1. Click the "Create" link that appears beneath the filters on the left side of your home page or your Friends page. Or, click the "Create New List" button from the "All Friends" tab of the Friends page.
2. Type the title of your list and hit enter.
3. Add people or Pages to the list by typing their names into the "Add to List" field or selecting them from the list.
4. Select "Save List" to store your changes.

If you are using Firefox, you have probably changed your browser settings to block Facebook images. To resolve this problem, please follow these steps:

1. Go to the "Tools" menu.
2. Choose "Options."
3. Click on the "Content" tab.
4. Across from "Load images automatically," click "Exceptions."
5. Highlight the Facebook URL.
6. Click "Remove site."
7. Close the Exceptions window.
8. Click "OK."
9. Restart your browser.

If you don't see an "Options" selection in the "Tools" menu, you will need to follow these steps:

1. Go to the "Firefox" menu.
2. Choose "Preferences."
3. Click on the "Content" tab.
   
4. Across from "Load images automatically," click "Exceptions."
5. Highlight the Facebook URL.
6. Click "Remove site."
7. Close the Exceptions window.
8. Click "OK."
9. Restart your browser.

This issue is due to your application settings being too restrictive. In order to resolve the problem, please follow these instructions:

1. Select Applications Settings from the Settings drop-down menu at the top of every Facebook page.
2. Click "Edit Settings" to the right of the Photos application.
3. In the Edit Photos Settings pop-up box, select the Profile tab.
4. Adjust the privacy setting to something other than "Only Me" and then click "Okay."

Photo album privacy differs from the Photos profile privacy setting on the Application Settings page. The latter setting only controls who can see the Photos tab or box on your profile.

To edit your photo album privacy, just go to the Photos tab at the top of your profile. On this tab, select the "Album Privacy" link in the photo albums section, edit the setting for each album, and click "Save Settings." You can also adjust the album privacy setting every time you create a new album.

Keep in mind that some people may be able to see your albums even when they cannot view them on your profile if your album privacy settings are open. These less restrictive settings include "Everyone," "All of My Networks," "Some of My Networks" and "Friends of Friends." Please note that the "Everyone" privacy setting allows anyone on Facebook to view the album if they are linked to it.

In order to add a photo to the Profile Pictures album, you must upload that photo as your current profile picture.

If you allow an application to place a box on your profile, you will find it on the Boxes tab. We’ve created this tab to help you to keep all of your added applications in a single, organized space. You can change the layout of this page by placing your mouse cursor over an application box title, clicking the box title, holding and dragging the box to a new location on the page.

If there are specific applications you really like that you want to feature on your profile, you can move them to the left-column of your Wall and Info tab. You can feature three applications in this column – the column will appear identically when viewing either the Wall or Info tab. To move the application, go to the Boxes tab where your application appears and click the pencil icon at the top-right of the box. Select "Move to Wall" tab to feature the application. Please keep in mind that not all applications will support a profile box or tab, even if this setting appears (i.e. Facebook Events does not have a Profile Box, even though it has a "Profile Box" privacy setting).

You can also create a new tab for a specific application by clicking the "+" icon that appears to the right of the tabs. You will then be able to select an application from the menu that appears and create a dedicated tab for that application.

If an application supports profile boxes, you can control whether or not it displays on your profile by editing the application’s settings. To do this, click on the "Applications" button at the left end of the Chat bar at the bottom of any Facebook page. In the menu that appears, click on the "Edit" link and you’ll be taken to the Edit Applications page. On this page, click on the "Edit" link to the right of the application in question and then click on the "Profile" tab in the window that appears. Please keep in mind that not all applications will support a profile box or tab, even if this setting appears (i.e. Facebook Events does not have a Profile Box, even though it has a "Profile Box" privacy setting).

You can remove an application you have authorized to your account by clicking on the "Applications" button at the left end of the Chat bar at the bottom of any Facebook page. In the menu that appears, click on the "Edit" link and you’ll be taken to the Edit Applications page. From there, click on the "Edit" link to the right of the application in question. Finally, click on the "Remove" link to the right of the application in question.

Group admins can select whether links can be posted to a group from the Customize tab of the Edit Group page. Admins also have the ability to remove links that they do not want to be associated with their groups.

If you are allowed to post links, copy and paste the web address (URL) in the Publisher at the top of the group’s main page. If this is is an open group, the links will be visible to everyone who views the group. The links posted on closed and secret groups are only visible to other members.

To remove a link that you shared with a group, please take the following steps:

1. Go to the group.
2. Find the Links section and click "See All."
3. Hover your mouse over the link that you shared.
4. Click "Remove."

If you are unable to log in to your account and are receiving a warning that your account appears to be compromised, Facebook has detected suspicious activity on your account and has temporarily suspended it as a security precaution. It is possible that your password was "phished," or stolen by a website designed to look like Facebook. You will be able to regain access to your account once you complete the automated security verification process. When you regain access to your account, please be sure to follow all of the suggested security precautions, including:

1. Password Protection: You should select a unique and complex password for your account and keep this entirely to yourself. Be sure that you use a complex string of numbers, letters, and punctuation marks that is at least six characters in length. It should also be different from other passwords you use elsewhere on the internet.
2. Private Browsing: Please make sure that you log out of your Facebook account and quit your browser when you’re done using the site. This is especially important when using a public computer or someone else's mobile device. You should also never check the "Keep me logged in" box when logging in from a public computer, as this will keep you logged in even after you close your browser window.
3. Secure Email: Since anyone who can read your email can probably also access your Facebook account, you should make sure that any email addresses associated with your account are secure. To ensure security, you should change the password for all of your email accounts and make sure that no two are the same. By varying your passwords, you can greatly decrease your account’s risk of being compromised in the future.
4. Security Question: If you have not done so already, you should add a security question to your account from the Account Settings page. You should choose a question and answer that you will remember, and no one else should be able to answer the question that you choose.
5. Log in at Facebook.com: Make sure that when you access the site, you always log in from a legitimate Facebook page with the facebook.com domain. Do not click any unfamiliar links and do not run any executable files (files ending in .exe) on your computer without knowing what they are. If something looks or feels suspicious, go directly to www.facebook.com to log in.
6. Run Anti-Virus Software: If your computer has been infected with a virus or with malware, you will need to run anti-virus software to remove these harmful programs and keep your information secure.

Your number is only shown if you entered the number in your profile contact info. You can determine what contact information is displayed on your profile and who is permitted to see this information by selecting the "Edit Information" link on the Info tab of your profile.

You can change your phone by following the "Edit Preferences" link on the Mobile page when logged in from a computer.

If you would no longer like to receive Updates from a public profile, group, or event, click on any Update it has sent to your Inbox. Next, click the "Unsubscribe" link located below the Update.

If your friends do not have any upcoming birthdays, you will not see a Birthdays section on your home page. In addition, we will never show your own birthday in this box, but rest assured that we will notify your friends of your upcoming birthday if your privacy settings are set to allow them to view it.

Please also keep in mind that you may be unable to see some notifications depending on a user’s privacy settings. You can update the visibility of your birthday while editing your profile.

You can choose to advertise a web page or content you’ve created on Facebook, like a Page or application. On this page, please choose where you’d like users to be directed when they click on your ad. To link your ad to any external website, use the "I have a website I want to advertise" option. To link your ad to any page within Facebook, including a Facebook Page or application, use the "I have something on Facebook I want to advertise" option. If you do not already have a Facebook Page, you can create one by clicking on the "Help me make a Page" option.

If you are having trouble viewing specific sections of your profile please go to the Privacy page and edit your Profile privacy. Selecting "No one" from any of the drop menus will hide the content from all users, including yourself. Please make sure that you have selected an option other than this most restrictive one.

Please check to make sure you have not turned off the visibility of the profile box from the Applications page. From this page, select "Profile Settings" on the left to update your application settings related to profile. Please take note that some applications will never display a profile section (i.e. Events).

Please check the Privacy page’s Profile section to ensure that you have not restricted the visibility of the content, such as restricting who can see your Wall.

Please also keep in mind that if you have not added any content to the application, the profile section may not appear.

You can remove friends from your Limited Profile Friend List from the Friends page. First, click on the Limited Profile Friend List from your Friends page. Then, click the "X" to the right of the friend you would like to remove and, in the box that appears, click the "Remove from List" button. The friend will be removed from your Limited Profile but remain a Facebook friend.

Facebook does not allow users to track profile views or see statistics on how often a particular piece of content has been viewed and by whom without your consent.

If an Application claims to provide this functionality, you can report an application for abuse by going to the application’s About page and clicking "Report Application" at the bottom of the page, or by clicking "Report" at the bottom of any canvas page within the application.

To protect account security, it is not possible to update your account’s security question once you have added one. If you have not yet created a security question, you will see this option on the Account Settings page.

To change your high school network, simply go to the go to the Networks tab of your Account Settings page and identify the school that you’ve moved to. Note that you can only change networks once every six months.

Also, note that if you move to a school that you do not attend and are reported for doing so, you will be permanently banned from the site.

We are generally forbidden by privacy laws against giving unauthorized access to someone who is not an account holder. Please note that all users ages 13 and older are considered authorized account holders and are included in the scope of this policy.

We encourage parents to exercise any discretion they can on their own computers and in overseeing their kids' internet use. If you are a parent, you might also consider using software tools on your own computer in order to do so. Facebook requires its users to be at least 13 years old before they can create an account. Providing false information to create an account is a violation of our Statement of Rights and Responsibilities. If you would like to report an underage user (under thirteen years of age), please do so here. We will promptly delete the account of any user under the age of 13 that is reported to us through this form.

Additionally, applicable laws may give parents the right to access personal information their child has provided before Facebook follows its policy of promptly deleting such accounts. You may access the account and obtain any necessary personal information by having your child sign into their account. You can then direct the deletion of the account by using the instructions here.

Alternatively, you can submit a request to Facebook here. Please be aware that you will be required to submit a notarized statement declaring your rights as a parent or guardian immediately upon using this form.

Go to the Links page by selecting "Links" from your Applications menu. While there, click "My Friends' Links" under "Subscribe to Links." You will then be able to obtain a RSS feed for all of your friends' links that you can save to your bookmark folder.

When you are viewing a specific friend's Links page, you can click the button on the right that says "Friend's Links" under "Subscribe to these Posts". You will then be able to obtain a RSS feed for all of the specific friend's links that you can save to your bookmark folder.

To edit your profile, first go to your profile.

1. Select the Info tab.
2. Click "Edit Information" at the top-right.
3. Update information in the available fields.
4. Click "Save Changes."

When viewing your own profile, scroll over the blue title bar at the top of any profile box. If you are allowed to move the section, your mouse cursor will turn into an icon that points in four directions, and you can move the profile box up, down, left, or right. If the icon only points up and down, you can only move the profile box vertically.

When you see this icon, click the mouse and hold down. Drag the section around your profile until it’s in the spot you desire. If you are not able to move a section into a certain position, you will see an on-screen notification. Please note that your profile picture and sections on the Info tab can never be moved.

To add family members to your profile, follow the steps below:

1. Go to the Info tab of your profile.
2. Select the "Edit Information" link.
3. In the Family field, use the drop-down menu to select the relationship you are adding.
4. Type your family member’s name. If you are entering children that are not on Facebook, you can include their dates of birth.
5. Click "Add another family member" to add more relatives.
6. Select "Save Changes" when you are finished.

Please note that your family member will need to confirm this relationship before their name appears as a blue link on your profile.

Anyone who is allowed to see the Basic Info section of your profile will be able to view family members you list on your profile. To edit your profile privacy settings, please visit the Profile section of the Privacy page.

When you see stuff highlighted in a profile, this means it was recently added to the profile. You'll see this highlighted view when you click on a profile on your Recently Updated Friend List or when clicking on a story from your Stream.

Yes. To create a tab that is powered by an application, click the "+" icon at the top-right of your profile page. You will then be able to select an application from the menu that appears and create a dedicated tab for the application. At this time you cannot add multiple applications to a tab you have created. However, your Boxes tab can have as many applications as you would like.

You can choose to advertise a web page or content you’ve created on Facebook, like a Page or application. On this page, please choose where you’d like users to be directed when they click on your ad. To link your ad to any external website, use the "I have a website I want to advertise" option. To link your ad to any page within Facebook, including a Facebook Page or application, use the "I have something on Facebook I want to advertise" option. If you are an administrator of a Facebook Page, you will be able to choose your username at facebook.com/username just like a user selecting a username for their profile. There will be an interface for you to choose usernames for the Pages you administer.

All Pages are eligible to claim usernames if they have more than 25 fans.

If you are an administrator of a Page, you will be able to choose a username for each Page at http://www.facebook.com. There will be an interface for you to choose usernames for the Facebook Pages you administer.

Usernames allow public entities to easily promote your presence on Facebook with a short URL (http://www.facebook.com/companyname). This username can be used in your marketing communications, company website and business cards.

Usernames were created to make it easier for Facebook users to identify their profile and share with others. As a public figure, business or brand with a Page on Facebook, your username should be straightforward and easy to remember. Facebook encourages you to consider the following when creating a username for Pages:

• Create a username that is as close as possible to your public figure or business name (e.g. AshtonKutcher, PizzaHut).
• If you own the rights to a given name, make it your username so that others cannot obtain it.
• Usernames can only contain alphanumeric characters (A-Z, 0-9) or a period (".").
• Choose a username you will be happy with for the long term. Usernames are not transferable.
• Your username must adhere to Facebook’s Statement of Rights and Responsibilities.

No. Once you have claimed a username by clicking the "Confirm" button, it is not possible to edit it, or to transfer your username to a different account on Facebook. Additionally, when an account is removed from the site, its username will not be made available to other users for security reasons.

No. Only one username is allowed per Page.

At this time, generic words are not available as usernames. Facebook encourages all users and Page administrators to create a username that closely matches the true identity of their name or business.

The destination URL must function properly and be able to be viewed from all browsers.

Facebook ads are reviewed from a variety of locations, and if your website is restricted to only users in certain regions, your ad may be disapproved.

The destination URL of your ad must not return an error page, be under construction or have visitor IP restrictions. Ads are reviewed from multiple international locations, so no destinations may be geographically IP gated.

We suggest that you double check your spelling and formatting of your destination URL when creating your ad to make sure you entered the correct information that allows users to visit your active desired destination page.

The real-time stream on your home page includes stories about your all friends’ activities. To view only your friends’ application stories, use the Filters under the Applications heading in the left sidebar of your home page. For example, if you click on the "Photos" link, only your friends’ Photos stories will appear.

You can view today’s events and birthdays in the Events section on the right-hand sidebar of your home page. This section is located beneath Highlights. Click the "See All" link to see upcoming events and birthdays, friends’ events and past events.

When you open an advertising account in a new currency you are given the option to copy all of the existing ads from your original account. If you choose to do so, your ads will be copied to the new ad account and their bids and budgets will be converted to the new currency at the current exchange rate. All ads in your original ad account will be paused. Historical campaign performance data will remain in the original account and will not be copied to the new one.

When you create a new account in a new currency, the daily spend limit from your previous account will be transferred over to your new account, and your original account's spend limit will be reduced to the minimum. We aren't able to manually raise this limit for you for any reason.

Within your single Facebook Ads login, you can maintain two accounts, each in a different currency. You may only create one advertising account per currency. You'll be able to access both accounts through your regular Facebook login, within your Ads Manager.

To switch between accounts, click the "Account" link at the top of your Ads Manager and select the account you'd like to view from the drop-down menu. The account will be identified by the currency of the account.

Currently we are only able to offer advertising credits or coupons for accounts using US dollars. If you choose to switch to another account currency and currently have an outstanding advertising credit on your account, you will forfeit any remaining value as we are unable to transfer credits between accounts. We recommend you wait until you've used your ad credits before copying existing ads to a new account.

It's not possible to change the currency of a particular account once it's set. Rather, you can maintain up to two different accounts, each with a different currency, within your Facebook account. Once they're set up you won't be able to change the currencies associated with those accounts.

To set one of the photos you have already uploaded as your profile picture, select "Make Profile Picture" at the bottom right when you are viewing the photo. You can change or remove your profile picture at any time by moving your mouse over your profile picture and selecting the "Change Picture" link that appears in the upper right-hand corner. You will see options to upload a new photo, take a picture with your webcam, choose an existing picture from the album, edit the thumbnail version or remove the picture.

To add a profile picture if you do not currently have one, navigate to your profile and click one of the links under the silhouette to upload a picture from your computer or take one with your webcam. If you choose to take a picture using your webcam, you may first have to allow your Flash player to access your webcam.

Anyone who can view your profile will be able to view your profile pictures. If you want to remove any of your profile pictures, you can do this by moving your mouse over your profile picture and selecting the "Change Picture" link that appears in the upper right-hand corner.

You can turn any tagged photo of you into a profile picture by clicking "Make Profile Picture" at the bottom-right of any photo. You will then have the option to crop the image as you like.

The Suggestions feature has been expanded to help you engage with your confirmed friends on Facebook in addition to finding people or Pages that you are likely to know.

The stories that appear on your friends’ home pages are based on the content you publish, the privacy settings of everyone involved, and your friends’ filter preferences.

Because your friends can always choose to hide content that you publish, there is no way to guarantee that your stories will always appear on their home pages.

When a user connects, you can use information provided via the API to help provide a richer user experience to that user. You can cache this data for up to 24 hours, but may not store or transfer it per the Facebook Platform Policies and Guidelines. This includes data that you may offer pre-filled in a form. For any data that a user manually enters directly into your application, this is considered independent data, and you can do whatever is permitted by your privacy policy.

You should refresh your version of the data at least every 24 hours to make sure you are using the most up-to-date versions of the information.

In addition, if you are ever displaying information about one user to another user, you must use the viewing user’s session key to request the data about the person being viewed. This will determine whether or not the viewing user has access to see the information. In the case where the viewing user is not connected with Facebook, use "null" for the session key, and you will be able to access public information. If you use xFBML or FBML to represent user data on your page, this will be handled automatically for you.

Facebook is still working on better APIs to access the streams of Public Profiles. If you call stream.get for a user you will be able to access public profile stories entered into the stream.

While viewing another person’s profile, you can use the Publisher to add content directly to their profile. Typing text alone in the Publisher box will create a Wall post.

When you share any content (e.g., a Wall post, video, or photo), a story will appear on your friend’s profile with a headline indicating that you have shared the information with them. The same story can also appear in the streams of other people who can view your friend’s profile.

If a person’s privacy settings prevent you from sharing a certain type of content on their profile, an error message will appear.

To share information privately with one person, click "Send a Message" below the person’s name on their profile.

You can target your ad to current fans of your Page using Connections targeting. To do so, simply look for the "Connections: Target users who are connected to:" field in the ad targeting interface. There is no limit to the number of Pages you can manage. You can manage as many Pages as you have been given the authority to manage. The Page Admin who initially creates the Page reserves the right to add or remove other Page Admins at their discretion.

Automatic authentication is a very lightweight authentication model that replaced the concept of "adding" Platform applications. It was announced on the developers blog.

Automatic authentication means that if a user visits an application canvas page (whether it's an FBML- or iframe-based canvas page), Facebook will pass that visitor's user ID to the application, even if the user has not authorized the application. The UID also gets passed when a user interacts with another user's application tab.

The user ID is passed along to canvas pages as the fb_sig_canvas_user parameter. You can access it from the new version of the PHP client using: $fb->get_canvas_user();

Our best recommendation is to create a splash page for your application that users who come to your app will see if they have not authorized the application.
