We use a variety of prevention and detection methods to verify that clicks on your ads are valid. To prevent invalid activity before clicks can even occur, we use tactics such as capping the number of times any ad can be shown to a user. We use filtering methods to detect and invalidate clicks that are repetitive, incomplete, or appear to be accidental. Our methods involve looking at numerous data points for each click as well as traffic patterns across the site.
For specific instances of suspicious click activity, if we detect or are alerted to the activity, our team will perform a manual review to determine the nature of it. You will not be charged for clicks that we determine to be invalid.
We do not disclose the specific methods and thresholds used to analyze click quality to ensure we protect the integrity of our filters and analysis.

Facebook reports valid clicks. Many third-party reporting tools instead count page visits or views, which may not correspond directly to clicks. Additionally, your third-party reporting tool may not count certain clicks because the tool requires that your browser have cookies, Javascript, and/or images enabled in order to record statistics. Your third-party tools may also count clicks that we have already identified and filtered out of your reports and charges. Please remember that statistics measured at daily intervals may be based on different time zones, resulting in different daily totals.
If your ad links directly to the site you're advertising, and you're trying to track clicks on that ad by looking at page visits with facebook.com as the source, it's likely that your statistics will be different than the reports we provide to you. This is an expected discrepancy, as many of the page visit sources will be lost with this kind of tracking process. If you’d like more information about how to successfully use third-party systems to track your page visits, we recommend contacting the tracking company directly.

If you have reason to believe you’re currently receiving invalid clicks or have received invalid clicks in the last two months, please fill out this form to request an investigation. If we determine that you were in fact charged for invalid clicks that we did not previously detect, we will credit your account accordingly.
When you contact us, please provide as many details as possible about the suspected activity so that we can thoroughly investigate your report. We often request server logs documenting the traffic to your site during the time period in question so that we can compare our logs to the server logs and explain any discrepancies that may be occurring. We cannot accept third-party aggregations for this purpose because they don’t contain the level of detail needed for investigation.

Facebook Connect
You do all sorts of interesting things on the internet. Many of these interesting things happen within Facebook, which is why we created News Feed—to let your friends know what you're up to on the site.
But what about interesting things that you do on other sites? Maybe you commented on a blog or dugg an article on Digg. Maybe you put up something for auction on eBay, or found a video you love and wanted to share it. Wouldn’t it be nice if when you were on another site, you could easily find your friends on that site and see what they are doing there, just like you can on Facebook?
This is why we've created "Facebook Connect." When you visit sites that support Facebook Connect, you can choose to "Connect" your Facebook account to those sites. By connecting your Facebook account to a website, you will share some of your profile information with that site (so there’s no need to create another profile!), find and interact with your friends on that site, and be able to publish stories about actions you took on that site into your Wall, and potentially into the News Feeds of your friends.
Facebook Connect works a lot like authorizing an application on Facebook. You have complete control over your information, who sees it, and what information is published back into your Wall on Facebook. You can always choose when a story gets published to your Wall, and if you do not want a Facebook Connect site to publish a story for you, it's easy to opt-out at any time. Sites do not have access to your information unless you or one of your friends explicitly "connect" to that site, and your privacy settings are always obeyed.

Responsible Disclosure Policy
We encourage security researchers who identify security problems to embrace the practice of notifying website security teams of problems and giving them time to fix the problems before making any information public. To make researchers feel comfortable bringing issues to our attention, we have adopted the following responsible reporting policy: If you share details of a security issue with us and give us a reasonable period of time to respond to it before making it public, and have not conducted research that would violate the terms of our Statement of Rights and Responsibilities, we will not bring any lawsuit against you or ask law enforcement to investigate you for that research.
Please note that if you choose to contact the Facebook Ads team, we're only able to provide support for inquiries in English, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Spanish and Turkish.
We're also unable to offer phone support at this time, but will be happy to respond to questions submitted through contact forms on this site.

The Atom feed or RSS feed of your friends' notes, statuses, or links or an individual user's notes, statuses, or links contains that content only, whereas News Feed contains stories about photo postings, relationship changes, etc. Also, your News Feed won't show a story every time one of your friends posts a note to Facebook; your News Feed only contains the stories we think you'll be the most interested in. The RSS or Atom feeds of a user's notes or your friends' notes, for example will contain every note posted. And finally, even though most web browsers display Atom or RSS feeds readably, you'll typically want to use a news aggregator to keep track of them.

Facebook has several features in place to limit the potential for abusive or annoying behaviors on the site. One of these features is a cap on the speed and frequency at which a user sends messages to other users while using the Inbox.
Please note that even if all of your conversations were legitimate interactions with friends, our Inbox message service is not a chat client and should not be treated as such. As a recommended alternative, we suggest that you check out the Facebook Chat feature, which allows you to exchange real-time messages with your confirmed Facebook friends.
To start using Facebook Chat, click the Chat icon in the bottom right corner of any Facebook page, and choose the "Go Online" option. You can start a conversation with any confirmed Facebook friend by clicking on their name in the "Online Friends" list. Once you send a message, your friend will receive an alert at the bottom of their screen, and they can reply by typing in the conversation box provided.

Facebook allows you to publish actions you take on other websites to your profile. For example, after you put something up for auction on eBay or purchase tickets to see a movie on Fandango, you can grant Facebook permission to generate a story that will show up on your friends’ home pages. Affiliate websites can only generate stories about your actions if you are logged in to Facebook at the same time. You have control over your information and who sees it. Affiliate websites can only generate stories about your actions if you are logged in to Facebook at the same time. You will always be notified when another website wants to publish a story about you. To opt out of having a story published, simply click "No, thanks."
If you change your mind after you’ve granted permission, you will have one more opportunity to opt out before the story is published on Facebook. You will also have the option to specify whether you want that website to always publish stories, notify you before publishing stories, or never publish stories about you.

If you are logged in to Facebook and take an action on an affiliated site, the website will alert you that it has a story it would like to send to your Facebook profile. You can then choose to take the following actions:
- You can click the ‘Learn More’ link to find out more about that story or edit your privacy settings for these external stories.
- You can click the ‘This isn’t me’ link if the Facebook account does not match the person using the external site. In this case, Facebook will never publish the story or otherwise share any information with the user’s friends on Facebook.
- You can click ‘No Thanks’ in which case Facebook will never publish that story or otherwise share any information with your friends on Facebook.
- You can click 'Close' or simply ignore the notification in which case the story will be sent to Facebook, but will not be published on the site. Next time you navigate to the Facebook Home page after interacting with an affiliate site, you’ll receive a second reminder that the affiliate website would like to publish a story on your behalf. There are three things you can do with this story—approve the story by clicking Okay, remove the story by clicking "Remove", or ignore the entire message by doing nothing. If you approve the story and click "Okay", the story will be published in your Mini-Feed and may appear in your friends' News Feeds. If you remove the story using the "Remove" link next to it, the story will never appear in your Mini-Feed or a friend’s News Feed. If you ignore the whole message, it will go away after a few days and nothing will be published to Mini-Feed or News Feed. However, when you ignore a story, it remains queued, so that the next time you generate a Beacon story, this home page message will have two stories, instead of one.

You can edit your privacy settings any time you are notified that an affiliated site has a story it would like to send to Facebook directly from that notification. You can also edit your privacy settings at any time directly on the Privacy Settings for External Websites page. On this page you have the option to specify for each website whether you want that website to always publish stories, notify you before publishing stories, or never publish stories for you. If you select "Always" publish stories, you will still be notified on that website via a pop-up when you generate a story, but instead of needing to approve it again on your home page, it will go straight to your profile.

If you ignore the pop-up box, the story generated will be sent to Facebook, but will not be published. The next time you visit your home page, you’ll see a message remind you that this story is being sent. You can then choose to approve the story and publish it, remove the story and never publish it, or ignore the story and act on it at a later time.
What happens if an action I take triggers In this case, unless you have selected to always publish stories from that website from the "External Websites" section of the Privacy page, you will have another chance remove the story the next time you go to your home page. A home page announcement lets you know that there is a story about to be published, and you can click the "Remove" link next to it. This prevents the story from being published and the story will never appear in your Mini-Feed or a friend’s News Feed.

You can join any open group that is set as global or that is limited to one of your current networks. You can search for groups by typing a name in the Search field at the top of the page, and then filtering the results to show only groups by clicking the Groups tab. Alternatively, you can browse groups by category from the Groups main page. To become a member, click the group's name, and then click "Join this Group" under the group picture on the right side of the screen.
Some groups require admin approval for you to join. If you try to join these groups, you will have to wait for an admin to confirm your request before you can join the group. Admins can change the settings for who can join a group at any time, and can also block specific people from joining a group.
Certain groups on Facebook require an invitation in order to join. You cannot request to join these. Only an invitation from a group admin will give you access.

At this time, the Friend Finder is capable of looking directly at email address books for certain email domains (e.g., @hotmail.com). If the error message, "Unsupported Email Address" appears, then this feature cannot automatically look at the address book of your email address to find your friends.
However, you can still use this feature if your email client (the program you use to read your email) allows you to export your contacts list as a .csv, .vcf, or .txt file. Uploading this file to Facebook will allow us to use it to tell you which of your contacts are on the site. For more detailed instructions on how to do this with specific clients, please see the bottom of the Friend Finder page.
In the future, we hope to expand the feature's capabilities to serve the needs of a wider range of users. In the meantime, please feel free to utilize our other search and invitation tools.

Photo album privacy differs from the Photos profile privacy setting on the Application Settings page. The latter setting only controls who can see the Photos tab or box on your profile.
To edit your photo album privacy, just go to the Photos tab at the top of your profile. On this tab, select the "Album Privacy" link in the photo albums section, edit the setting for each album, and click "Save Settings." You can also adjust the album privacy setting every time you create a new album.
Keep in mind that some people may be able to see your albums even when they cannot view them on your profile if your album privacy settings are open. These less restrictive settings include "Everyone," "All of My Networks," "Some of My Networks" and "Friends of Friends." Please note that the "Everyone" privacy setting allows anyone on Facebook to view the album if they are linked to it.

Facebook's ad system employs an algorithm that estimates the best performing ad based on a variety of factors, including the historical performance of the ad and its bid. The bid necessary to win our ad auction will fluctuate as our system learns more about your ad based on its actual performance, and as the pool of competing ads changes.
You may need to adjust your bid over time to keep your ad competitive in the auction. We also encourage advertisers to experiment with different ad creatives and targeting over time to keep their ads fresh and interesting to users.

Your ad is more likely to perform better and continue running successfully if it is being displayed to the users who are most likely to be interested in your product or service. Because of this, we recommend targeting your ads to smaller, more specific groups of users at one time. This will also allow you to write ad text that is more personalized, making your ad more appealing to the users you are reaching.

The "Advertising Performance" report will give you information about your ads' performance in terms of impressions, clicks, click-through rates, etc. The "Responder Demographics" report will give you more information about the users who are viewing or taking action on your ads.
You can also choose to summarize your report by Account, Campaign or Ad. Account reports will give you statistics at the account level, which means that all clicks and impressions will be totaled across all ads and campaigns. The Campaign reports will break these statistics down to the campaign level, and the Ad reports will break them down further to the individual ad level.
The "View" option allows you to choose what unit of time your report will be broken down by. Monthly reports will give you statistics totaled by month, while weekly or daily reports will be totaled by those units of time. Please note that not all time options will be available for all reports.

You can create a session secret for those times where your application secret can be discovered easily --for example, if you have a Flash application, you don't want to store your secret in the Flash code, since a user can decompile the application and discover your secret. For more information, see http://wiki.developers.facebook.com/index.php/Session_Secret
You should never disclose your application secret to others or embed it in code that you distribute. As such, the application secret is appropriate for use on the server-side of a web site, but it is not appropriate for Javascript code or for desktop or mobile clients. For those environments, you should always and only use a session secret.

If you have a work email address that has the company domain, please click this link.
If you’re not receiving the confirmation email, please check your email application's spam or junk folder or filter.
In order to join one of our college networks, you need to have a valid email address from one of the schools we support. This email account needs to be set up to send or receive external emails. To accommodate alumni, we accept school affiliated alumni email addresses, which are available at many schools (often for free) through their school or alumni association.A high school network:
If your school does not provide you with an email address, you will not be able to join that network at this time.
If you have an email address from your school, but aren’t able to receive the confirmation email, please check your spam and junk-related folders and filters.
If you’re still unable to add a college network, please click here.
If you cannot add your college or university because it is not supported, please click on this link.
If you do not have an option to add a high school network to your account, then you may be ineligible to register with a high school at this time. If you currently attend high school and are between the ages of 13 and 18 but have not provided this information accurately, please use the link at the bottom to contact us – we’ll then be able to update your account. If you are over the age of 18, you will need to add your high school information to the Education section of your Profile, as you are no longer eligible to add a high school network. Note that people will still be able to find you in a Classmates Search.
If you are unable to add your high school network because you have recently switched high school networks, you may need to wait until the block expires before adding a new high school. If you are registered in a high school that you do not currently attend, please use the form below to contact us – we’ll then be able to update your account.
If you are unable to add your high school network because we do not support your high school, we can help to add the network to Facebook. Please click here to contact us with your high school information.

When we introduced the new stream format, the new focus of the Feed forms (for both applications and Facebook Connect sites) was the ability for users to add personal messages to each story when they shared the story. Because users can add their own message to each individual story, the "always publish" feature no longer applies, so we decided to remove the checkbox for "always publish".
Going forward, we recommend you use Feed forms whenever appropriate in your application as it’s a great chance for a user to add a personal message as they are sharing in the stream. If the user already adds a personal message within your application, you can pre-default that in the Feed form with the user_message parameter.
If Feed forms are not appropriate for your application, or if users are taking actions many times and would like to skip the feed forms, you can publish stories directly to users’ profiles using the stream.publish method. In order to use this method, users must first grant the publish_stream extended permission. With this method, you can pass a user message and should only do that with messages the users have directly typed into your application.

These less restrictive settings include "Everyone," and "Friends of Friends." Please note that the "Everyone" privacy setting allows anyone on Facebook to view the album if they are linked to it.

Page admins who post engaging, high quality content will have interactive fan bases capable of virally spreading content through the social graph. The Fan Interaction Graph shows how fans are engaging with your posts and consuming your material.
- Interactions: Total number of comments, Wall posts, and likes.
- Interactions Per Post: Average number of comments, Wall posts, and likes generated by each piece of content you post.
- Post Quality: Score measuring how engaging your content is to Facebook users. A higher Post Quality indicates material that better engages users.
- Posts: Number of posts your Page has made either on the Wall or in video.
- Page Views: Number of times your Page has been viewed by Facebook users.
- Stream CTR / ETR: This graph is a measure of the Click Through Rate and Engagement Rate for your content appearing in the Facebook News Feed. If a user clicks on one of your posts, that will be counted as Stream CTR. If a user likes or comments on one of your posts, that will be counted in the Stream ETR. Please note that Stream data is based on a sample and therefore is an estimate of your Stream CTR and ETR. (Coming soon)
- Media Consumption: This graph tracks how many photo views, audio plays, and video plays your content have received.
- Discussion Posts: Total number of discussion posts written by fans.
- Reviews: Number of times your Page has been rated in the Reviews application.

When you create a group, you can completely control its privacy. There are three different access levels:
- Open: For "global" groups, everyone on Facebook can view the group and join. If the group is exclusive to a specific network, only the people in that network can view the group or join it. All content (e.g., photos, videos and discussions) is visible to anyone viewing the group.
- Closed: For "global" groups, everyone on Facebook can see the group, but the administrators must approve all membership requests or personally send invitations. If the group is exclusive to one network, only people in that network can view the group or join it. Only group members can view its Wall, discussion board, and photo or video content. Non-members can view its Info and Recent News. If you are not a member, you will not receive stories about closed groups.
- Secret: These groups cannot be found in searches or be viewed by non-members. The name of the group will not display on the profiles of members. Membership is by invitation only. Non-members will not receive stories about secret groups.

Group admins can select whether photos can be posted to a group from the Customize tab of the Edit Group page. If photos are enabled, admins may allow all group members or only other admins to post them. Admins also have the ability to remove any photos they do not want to be associated with their group.
If you are allowed to add photos, you can do this by clicking the "Photos" icon in the Publisher at the top of the group’s main page. You can select up to five photos at a time to upload, or move as many photos as you want from an existing album. If this is an open group, the photos will be visible to everyone who views the group. Photos posted on closed and secret groups are only visible to other members.

Highlights and News Feed have been merged into one single stream in order to provide you with more control over what you see on your home page. Now when you load Facebook for the first time in a while, you’ll land on your News Feed, which contains a summary of the best content that you missed. After you've caught up on what you've missed, you can switch to the Live Feed. The Live Feed is a real-time stream that allows you to connect and share with friends’ updates immediately as they are occurring.

Facebook enables you to see what’s happening with your friends through past events and real-time feeds of information. Highlights and the News Feed were combined into a single stream so that you could have more control over what you view on your home page and stay connected with your friends.
As a result of this change, you’ll notice that the Suggestions section has been moved to the right-hand column of the home page. Also, birthdays and events are displayed more prominently on the home page.

For technical reasons, it may take more than several minutes for a video to fully encode. This process should not last more than a few hours. To see a list of the videos that are currently encoding for your account, go to the "Videos Encoding" tab of the My Videos page. Facebook will continue to be an open platform where developers can launch their application without approval from Facebook, however applications will also continue to be subject to review at any time. The Verification standards are now required of all applications on Platform and we're providing new principles, simplified policies and supporting examples to help developers understand what it takes to meet these standards. We will be proactively reviewing applications against these requirements. All developers must comply with the principles and policies, and we'll be upholding these expectations in the review process and in our enforcement efforts.
We will also expand our team responsible for policy enforcement on Platform so that they can support the upholding of the principles we've introduced as part of our roadmap. We intend to make sure that the experience that our users have on Platform is of the same quality as they experience elsewhere on Facebook. This is something that we are constantly asked for by developers and we are excited to be dedicating significant resources to making it happen.
