Technical Questions

The easiest way to optimize the quality of your videos is to upload HD video.

If you're exporting your video from editing software (ex: Final Cut Pro, Avid, iMovie) we recommend these custom settings:

  • H.264 video with AAC audio in MOV or MP4 format
  • An aspect ratio no larger than 1280px wide and divisible by 16px
  • A frame rate at, or below, 30fps
  • Stereo audio with a sample rate of 44,100hz

Your software's guide should include information about exporting video with custom settings.

Keep in mind that videos must be less than 20 minutes long. The longer your video is, the larger its file size will be. This may affect the quality of the video.

Usually, when you add a video to Facebook, the file needs to be changed into another format. This is video encoding. It can take some time before your video is added to Facebook.

If you're having trouble on your computer, check that you're using the latest version of your browser (ex: Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari). We also recommend you install the latest version of Adobe Flash.

If you're having trouble viewing videos on your phone, make sure your phone is able to play videos. If your phone doesn't support videos it will show a thumbnail but won't play.

If you're still having trouble viewing or playing videos, please let us know.

When you post a video from your personal account (ex: Jane Smith), it's not currently possible to tell how many times your video has been viewed.

When you post the video as a Page you manage (ex: Jane's Cupcake Shop), you can see metrics about video viewing behavior from a desktop computer.

If a video's been uploaded to Facebook that you own the copyright to, click on the video so it expands into it's own window and then click Options beneath it. Select Report/Remove Tag and then click Is this your intellectual property? You’ll be directed through the reporting process.

Alternatively, you can report content that you own the copyright to from the Copyright page.
