Hit and Run History: The Columbia Expedition
With a crew gathered from coastal towns in New England, we take history out of the library and down to the street-level.

We’re practicing history without a license – Hit and Run.

Hit and Run History: The Columbia Expedition

Hit and Run History: The Columbia Expedition We commission our own Captain's cutlass.

We started in early December by going to Rusty Griffin's metalworking shop to check out the implements necessary to forge a 18th-century sword. Throughout the month, we film the various stages of the sword's creation -- right up to completion.

Hit and Run History: The Columbia Expedition Finding a big corner booth, we set up cameras and mics to talk about our adventures in making our second episode. The Open Call for a translator, airline tickets, visas, Dengue Fever and Cape Verde. Oh, and we eat, too.

Looks like you are already on the list!

Look for the tab over on the left hand side of the page "Suggest to Friends". That's the best way to get other people to check us out.

And thanks!

Sidewalk Driver

Sidewalk Driver  Our friends at Hit and Run History: The Columbia Expedition used "Tornado" as the soundtrack to their very cool "Cabo Verde Odyssey" video. (When you sing along whilst watching, just replace the word "tornado" with "volcano.") Check it out!

The crew of Hit and Run History heads to Cape Verde, hot on the trail of the Columbia Expedition -- the first American voyage 'round the world. We climb volcanos, drink grog and beat on dengue-ridden mosquitos here in the archipelago nation 400 miles off the west coast... of Africa. And we walk in the steps of the first Americans much of the world ever met. Special thanks to photographer Peter Ruprecht for the inspiration.

Hit and Run History: The Columbia Expedition

Hit and Run History: The Columbia Expedition Before catching our flight home this afternoon, we take in our last chance to film. This is our last chance to go down to the harbor itself, and retrace the steps of Captain John Kendrick, hot on the heels of his Ship's Surgeon, who had taken refuge ashore.
