If you have any comments or find any broken links, your input will be greatly appreciated. I am continually trying to make the information on the site easier to find; no easy feat with so much information on over 200 pages! I am still fine tuning things and will b...e trying to find where certain things fit in the overall scheme of things. But hopefully this is a step forward.

Hit the Trail - Phantom Ranch, Grand Canyon and the Southwest Here's some white stuff that isn't snow! White Sands National Monument is such a beautiful place! It is the world's largest gypsum dune field. There is something about the sand there that feels clean. I know that sounds weird, but it doesn't feel like sand on the beach. It is wonderful to play in. It is 275 square mile...s of pure white sand dunes that have only a few yuccas and hardy grasses and other plants that grow there. And it is so fun to play there! Hit the Trail - Phantom Ranch, Grand Canyon and the Southwest Mather Point is the first overlook you come to when you drive through the South Entrance to Grand Canyon. It is an amazing view. I love to be with first time Canyon visitors when they get to the rim. You don't even see the Canyon until that last moment, and then WHAM! It bowls you over! There's nothing like that first view!

Hit the Trail - Phantom Ranch, Grand Canyon and the Southwest It looks like we won't be able to see it, but tonight is when the Geminid Meteor Shower peaks! Unfortunately, the Grand Canyon area will be covered in thick clouds and will probably be getting snow--not that I am complaining about finally getting moisture! Follow the link below to National Geographic's page on the mete...or show and to see an INCREDIBLE photo of Monument Valley on the border of Arizona/Utah during the Geminid Meteor Shower of 2007. Beautiful!

Hit the Trail - Phantom Ranch, Grand Canyon and the Southwest A blast of winter finally came to Arizona! Several days ago, northern Arizona was covered in several feet of snow and stranded elk hunters who were caught off guard by the severity of the blizzard. Nearly 50 hunters of all ages, from 5 years of age to over 70, had to be rescued from the mountains north of Flagstaff, le...aving their trucks and trailers until the snow melts enough to allow them to remove them. Another storm is due tonight with more snow predicted, however, not as much is expected in this storm.

This was my final hike during our trip during the week in November. The fall colors were incredible, and the Emerald Pools hike was one of the best for colors. For more information on the hikes, and this particular hike, visit http://www.nps.gov/zion/planyourvisit/hi king-in-zion.htm.

Hit the Trail - Phantom Ranch, Grand Canyon and the Southwest Grand Canyon and Northern Arizona is finally getting some moisture in the form of rain in the lower elevations and snow in the higher elevations. If we're lucky, we'll have snow on the rims and views like the ones that Mike Buchheit has in this slideshow of winter scenes this weekend. The storm is supposed to clear out... by the end of the weekend so don't expect the views to last. But if you're lucky enough to be at the Canyon for the fleeting storm, enjoy them while they do!

Hit the Trail - Phantom Ranch, Grand Canyon and the Southwest Temperatures are supposed to get to 12°F/-11C tonight on the South Rim! That's mighty cold!! No precipitation in the forecast yet. Still a lot of prescribed burns in the Flagstaff and Grand Canyon area though, so you can expect to see smoke in the area. A good place for finding info on this and other things going on in... the state is the AZ Emergency Informaton Network. Hit the Trail - Phantom Ranch, Grand Canyon and the Southwest After hiking Angels Landing the previous day, we decided to another hike up, but this one was much milder than that of the day before. The weather continued to be perfect. We found the freestanding arch on the way back having missed it on our way up! We were expecting it to be up on the canyon walls. Fortunately, a couple told us it was down on the canyon floor!
