Adrian Aldsworth

Adrian Aldsworth Why are you asking people to email you with questions? That's what your FB page is for. Its not good enough to issue a response to a journalist at NYT. Where is the visible public response that people are asking for?

It is winter, a third of the city is poor, and unworn clothing is being destroyed nightly.

Sonal

Sonal Making statements like "We take responsibility" does not make it all okay and fix this problem. A reputable store like yours and others should be ashamed that in this country, let alone this world when your fellow Americans are freezing to death and have no shoes to wear you destroy stuff instead of donating!!!!! I won...der what kind of corporate, capitalist practice is this and what benefits are you getting out of it!!!!! Utterly shameful, thoughtless and disgusting and a complete moral disregard!!!!!

Miranda Since everyone is so concerned about the bad going on perhaps now that you're all boycotting H&M you can use the time and money you would spend shopping there to do something good, to make up for all the bad that goes on.

Correy Hope Kustin than why did your NYC rip up clothes and leave them to the garbage. instead of sending them to the needy?

Madeleine Baldwin

Madeleine Baldwin i find it incredibly saddening that retailers destroy unused clothing and i find it even more disturbing that many people think thats ok. Its a waste of money for the company, a waste of clothing that could go to a good cause, and just another way to prevent it from being sold at a lower price once its out of season. S...eems to me like no one benefits. Shame on you, H&M, for your selfish, unjustifiable behavior.

Add: the cost of production (labour, materials, electricity, transportation) and the price of throwing out perfect garments is even bigger than what the price tag states.

It's true. There are ton of stores, not just clothing stores, that do the same. If so many stores have such a similar practice, there must be an underlying reason behind all this. But this is currently something beyond my knowledge.

And then H & M still goes online and makes statements like we take responsibility for what happens in our NY stores....Yeah and more like hide what's going on in others!!!! I hate all of them equally who use such practices, who can't see a homeless person right outside their stores freezing to death!!!! Wow Corporate America!!!!
