John Liddle

John Liddle Firstly, great website, I can spend all day on hockeydb. Secondly, I'm trying to think of some high profile situations where players have returned to teams they had once left. Avery has gone back to Rangers, Fleury went back to Flames (kind of)... What are your favourite reunions?

At this point, it looks like I have all the leagues I'm going to have for real-time statistics. The AAHL does not appear to be keeping statistics this year, and I'm unsure that the NEPHL will either. As far as I'm concerned, if a league doesn't even bother to keep statistics, I'm not sure how they can be viewed as "pro...fessional". I also added the 2008-09 AJHL and AUS (Canadian University) data in the past week.Read More

Thanks, if I could do without them, I would, but the reality is that they pay very well specifically because they are more intrusive than other forms of advertising, and I can't just add the advertising as not a popunder and get the same amount.

It may be a small consolation, but I have refused to add "interstital" advertising, which is a form of ... Read Moread which blocks the page and requires the user to close it before proceeding. Those are way too intrusive.

Another small consolation is that I have reduced the number of popunders compared to 2-3 years ago. I used to show one ad on the first pageview, then 1 on pageview #5, then one on #10, and one on #20. I've dropped off those latter two, so people get a max of 2 per day, sometimes just 1 or even 0.

Sounds good... Again, I was by no means trying to say to get rid of your source of revenue.

Tyrelle Daly

Tyrelle Daly Can you tell me where you get a player's stats that you post on your database? Thanks!

Hi Tyrelle --

Your question is too broad, and can only be answered broadly. The statistics come from various sources officially published by the league, with holes augmented by research. If you'd like to be more specific -- for example, a league/season, then I can be more specific too.

Hockeydb.com In the past few weeks, I have brought online the SPHL, IHL, CHL, ECHL, and NCAA for the 2009-10 season. The only leagues remaining are the low-A leagues -- the AAHL and the NEPHL. The LNAH will not be carried because their information is virtually inaccessible to me, and I can't get at the Swiss league data either. I may also try to bring the NAHL into real-time this year -- they are updated to last season.

They do compile the stats, but they publish it in a way which makes it too difficult for me to access it. No one over there returns my emails.

Charlie Bobrowsky What's with the annoying popups from your homepage?

Hockeydb.com

Hockeydb.com I'm adding checklists of NHL hockey cards for the past couple years, and am absolutely disgusted at the card market. One set, Upper Deck Artifacts, has 5,459 different cards in it! Many of the cards only had one copy printed. What value is there in even checklisting such cards? Doesn't anyone realize that collectors actually try to complete their collections -- which is no longer possible?

How come versus doesn't have hockeydb as a in-between period commentator? Hockeydb could be like the banker on Deal or No Deal just quoting stats through a hotline.

I used to collect players, but like you said there are so many 1/1's and scarce cards that it's not worth collecting anymore. I switched over to collecting game worn jerseys, which sometimes cost less than cards with a half inch swatch from a jersey on it.

Terry Nieth Its great to see that you are expanding your stats. I was a member of the 1990-1991 NAIT OOKs hockey club but I am not on your listing. How do i get that rectified?

Do you have a set of printed official statistics from the team or the ACAC? If so, get me a copy of them. I don't know where to find historical ACAC data otherwise.

Kenneth Bonham

Kenneth Bonham Thanks for the update, I noticed you made a few postings lately. You should keep it up throughout the season! Site looks great since it was redone last year I think. Thanks for keeping up with all of the info, its great to pull out the laptop during a saturday night double header on HNIC.

Hockeydb.com NHL season starts tonight; if you haven't noticed, all NHL team rosters have been updating nightly since Tuesday. The AHL, USHL, and German Oberliga will also go live this weekend.

Before Pointstreak, the league used to publish their statistics on the FISG site. Now they are not appearing in either place. I noticed that the first four games don't have statistics updated, are they having problems?

While I'm at it, do you know if there are any good published sources for Italian hockey statistics pre-2001 or so? Edoardo sent me... Read More a couple of copies of the official statistics from 2001-02 and 2002-03, I think, and the FISG site had electronic copies for seasons after that. But the earlier stuff is harder to come by.

I rely on various league guides for awards, and the leagues haven't put their guides out yet. I am also a little behind on non-NHL leagues.

I was thinking about the NHL-awards, like the Hart and so on for the last few years.
But it' s not that important, of course, don't want to sound like a nag =)
