To learn to be more assertive with my girl. She knows I'm wrapped around her pretty hoofs and she gets away with things. LOL

Ride for the fun of it and not look at it like an obligation.... I love riding but after working all day and looking after a house and barn it can be really hard not to look at it as one more thing you have to do or didn't do today

Taly Eddington

Taly Eddington I'm thinking of getting another horse, and want to pasture it with my current gelding. He's been with other horses before and done great, but what's the best way to introduce horses to each other in a pasture setting? With halter and lead? Just let them both go? Suggestions would be great. :)

AT our boarding stables, we put the horses in different paddocks next to each other, so they can get to know each other on the other side of a fence. Do that for a couple day, and then let them go into the same pasture again. It always works at our stables, we have about forty horses in the pasture on average.

That's a great idea, Katrina. If you don't have that option, Taly, you can leave one horse in the pasture and hand walk the other horse along the fence line. You can try introducing them by putting them in neighboring stalls as well (if the stalls have bars that allow them to see each other). Eventually, have a friend hand walk one horse around the stable yard while you hand walk the other alongside (you and your friend separating the horses from each other).

Hi Alysia. We actually featured the Connemara in our March 2009 issue along with some other Irish breeds. The Connemara is even featured on the poster. (I pulled it out and put it on the wall in my cubicle!)
