Quapaw, OK – The Four States area will once again leave its mark on the national poker scene when Heartland Poker Tour returns in October, while Texas Hold ‘em fans hope to leave Downstream Casino Resort with a hundred thousand marks of their own.
Now filming its sixth season, HPT gives local poker enthusiasts and cas...ual players a chance to compete for “life-changing money” on national TV. The first-place finisher is guaranteed to win at least $100,000. “The opportunity to win that kind of money is appealing for every level of player,” says HPT President Todd Anderson, “and the investment is affordable for everyone.”
The size of the prize pool is determined by the number of players in the field, with hopefuls entering for as little as $45. When HPT stopped at Downstream last year, the top 44 finishers each got a share of $428,571. Champion Sean Sananikone of Fort Smith, Arkansas won $127,404, just as he was facing a layoff from his factory job.
Although records show players from all over the U.S. travel to Downstream to play the HPT, local players have led the pack of top finishers. Of three previous HPT events at Downstream, sixteen of the eighteen players to make the televised final table were from Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas, and Oklahoma.
Qualifying rounds start September 30th for those who hope to win their way into the Main Event. Players may also buy directly into the Main Event on October 9th, with play continuing until the field is reduced to six. The remaining six will participate in on-camera interviews and move to the HPT set, assembled on site, to compete for the coveted championship on October 10th.
The upcoming event at Downstream will be produced into two one-hour episodes and broadcast nationwide in January. Heartland Poker Tour is available on TV in over 100 million US households, in addition to widespread distribution throughout Europe and the Caribbean. In the Four State area, HPT airs as often as thirty times per week in addition to national broadcasts on Altitude Sports, MAVTV, and Tuff TV. Anyone interested in viewing the taping may get a seat in the audience by arriving on October 10th by 5 PM.
Structures and schedules for the upcoming televised event can be found at heartlandpokertour.com.
