There are many of those who believe in the indoctrinations of the children and the reaffirmations of the past. The awakenings of education and human understanding are the best weapons against hate.

I fully support this. As an American residing abroad, I am impacted directly when our government and its "security" services stray out of the bounds of international law. If we cannot abide by the laws we have subscribed to, we become little more than a nation of lawlessness and our fellow citizens abroad become exposed to abuse. Sadly, our embassies can do little to protect us, likewise, although they certainly are very well protected and walled-off.

I agree with John too. I want to see him make good on some of his promises, and transferring those at Gitmo to some nightmarish prison here is no solution at all. It's not okay to put innocent people in jail.

I agree with Marlene--imprisoning innocent people is antithetical to our democratic values. How can we expect others to follow our example if we don't consistently practice our values, in good times and in bad. All human rights abuses say they had to do it because of an emergency, security situation etc. That doesn't wash.

Before the war on a noun was declared, this nation was a beacon of justice to the world and hopefully we are on the path back to that status. We can either believe in our justice system that has, for the most part, served us well since our founding or we can reject that system. If we reject it, we are capitulating to the forces that wish to bring us down to their level......
