Hungry Ear Records 2009 was our best year for selling new and used vinyl in almost 20 years! Thanks everyone for supporting us and look for new stuff in 2010!

Hungry Ear Records The new phone books are in, the new phone books are in!

Hungry Ear Records If you’ve been good this year, maybe Santa will bring you a copy of “Saturday Night Fiedler”!!! Our friend Harry Koizumi checks out our record find of the day! You too can discover “the joy of listening and dancing to the first disco record with the Boston Pops.”

Hungry Ear Records We were interviewed on the resurgence of vinyl for the Windward Community College online newspaper. I come off sounding a little dorky but don't blame the reporter: I always sound like that. You know, I am poet, a visionary, a shaman, I can't tied down to the written word -- Okay, maybe I'm just a dork.

Hungry Ear Records A guy was asking me a question about record needles while chewing on a pen. He kept pointing at things with that pen. After awhile I could only watch the pen pointing, then going back to his mouth. Pen, mouth, pen, mouth. Gack.

Hungry Ear Records Thanks to all of you who have offered your support regarding our lease and possible move. We should have this issued resolved in the near future and promise to post the news here. At the moment we can say that we plan on staying in Kailua and the future looks very good!

Hungry Ear Records I'm thinking of getting rid of our Hip-Hop CD section. I wouldn't get rid of rap CDs; they'd just be mixed in with the Pop/Rock. I have to straighten out the Hip-Hop section several times a day where every other section needs cleaning only a couple times a week. And all that ever sells is Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, 50 Cent and Bone Thugs n Harmony.

Hungry Ear Records Ward knows his needles! A guy just brought in his turntable and asked if we had a new needle for it or could order one for him! So I (Dennie) gets Ward since he's the needle expert and knows our inventory. Ward takes one look at it and goes "it's a 213-D6C". Dennie: "Are you serious?" Ward: "Ummm yeah"

Hungry Ear Records A guy was trying to sell some DVDs to Dennie. While he's waiting he asks, "You guys get cock-fighting DVDs from the Phillippines?" Me: "Uh, no." "How about dog-fighting videos?"

Hungry Ear Records Mark Malia is back in Hawaii visiting his mom so Dave Duncan flew over from Kauai for a couple of days. Here they are being interviewed by Laurie for the Hungry Ear documentary. No doubt they are saying something interesting and insightful.

Hungry Ear Records Across the Universe! Just read that John Lennon and George Harrison stayed in Kailua back in '64!

The Beatles and Hawaii connection.

Hungry Ear Records 50-ish local guy in orange long sleeve t-shirt: "You get Kid Rock? Christian Music?" Me: "Uh, Kid Rock doesn't do Christian Music, you know." Him: "My friend got 'em from here." "Well, his latest CD is called Rock'n'Roll Jesus..." "Yeah, that's it. I take 'em."

Hey, Mark Malia is back on the island visiting his mom through the beginning of December. he's not online but if you want to tell him anything, we'd be glad to relay the messages to him.
This picture is of Mark and Luke at Club Laimu, a now-defunct karaoke bar on Ward Avenue, is from May 1994. Mark was back visiting aft...er having left Hungry Ear 5-6 years before. Not visible on the other side of the table are Todd, Ward, and Dean Fujimoto (tih!).
On the back of the photo print mark wrote, "Luke, thanks for letting me grab onto your knee, it helped me get through this emotional part of the song."
