Interpretation By Design No Paper Airplanes

Over the Christmas holiday I was able to hang out with two high school buddieswho are now life-long friends. It was a great time to be nostalgic and relive the good ol’ days—before the introduction ofmoral compasses, responsibilities, and obligations. ...

Interpretation By Design From NPR: The Best Album Covers of 2009. Thanks to Kelly Farrell for sending this along.

www.npr.org
In the 10 years Bob and I have been producing All Songs Considered, one thing we've both noticed is how easy it is to judge an album by its cover art. We get several hundred CDs in the mail each week, and as we quickly sort through them, we can often eyeball which ones we're going to like. ...

Interpretation By Design Graphic Design Resolutions for a New Decade

www.interpretationbydesign.com
For the last 10 years, the back-to-back zeroes in the years 2000–2009 have wreaked havoc on typographic design, their rounded forms making those numerals look too far apart unless consciously kerned by an attentive typographer. ...

Months in low gravity with young Helen Mirren, and you're thinking about John Lithgow? I think that invalidates the nerd license right there.

Personally, I'd be willing to accept the ongoing proliferation of the scare quote if only people would make sure their quotation marks and apostrophes pointed the correct direction. The backwards-facing apostrophe, especially at the start of an abbreviated word, is much more insidious than quotation marks for emphasis.

Chex are cool. However, I like to mix the "grids" full of peanut butter, confectioners powdered sugar, and melted chocolate. In the end, it is a jumbled, clunky, yet tasty mess. Does that make your OCD act up (if you think of it as part of your analogy)? Don't lie!

Interpretation By Design Here's an item from NPR that should appeal to design nerds, science nerds, and detail purists

www.npr.org
'Tis the season for images of snowflakes. Unfortunately, many artistic renderings of snow crystals show an eight-sided structure — something that can't occur in nature. So this year, one scientist decided to set the record straight.
Interpretation By Design

Interpretation By Design In case you hadn't heard, there's been some snow on the east coast recently.

I have a confession to make. I realize that a lot of you don’t like me already and are only reading this because you thought it was one of Shea’s posts, but this is going to make you like me even less.

Interpretation By Design Shea proves that he is a nerd. Again.

www.interpretationbydesign.com
I try hard not to be a nerd, but sometimes I just can’t help it. With the Nerd Herd being a large part of the IBD community I am proud to say that not only am I a co-founder, I’m also a client. The value of community was confirmed to me in two recent incidents.

Interpretation By Design Ask a Nerd: Does Graphic Design Matter?

www.interpretationbydesign.com
Help! A client doesn’t want me to use photos on interpretive signs because they “add clutter and don’t help achieve sign goals.” They suggest text only, or text with a map. Do you know of any good, recent research to help me convince them otherwise? —Joan

Interpretation By Design Thanks to friend of IBD Janna Bernstein Rhodes for turning us on to this weird, funny video about a typeface. It makes us feel like we're not alone when people send us typography-based comedy.

Shea here, thank you to Janna for sharing, way too funny. I couldn't tell if the bow ties were there as part of costumes making fun of legitimate interpretive designers or just good style?

My post Thursday is on the design community, being able to make fun of yourself and not taking yourself too seriously. These guys have that covered.
