Big conversations & small talk

Jonas Holl-Epstein

Jonas Holl-Epstein Won't luxury continue to mean enjoyment of something exclusive to a minority? Only the thing which is exclusive will change. What will it be? Water, health care, exception from the draft?

Also disconnected from the material element luxury will always exist in a form and other in our social system; luxury of time, relationship, reflection, knowledge and experiences could be new premises that we search. Our social system defines and catalyzes luxury, to create individualization and a perceivable social hi...erarchy. Also when materialism is negatively perceived by the peer in the near future, luxury as argument for social differentiation will still survive for a long time as each of us is fertilizing it.Read More

Stijn Damminga

Stijn Damminga It's interesting that so many people regard freedom as a form of luxury. Even Karl Lagerfeld says so... (at 6'30")

Joshua Aaron Murphy Luxury will be fleeting, much like time. Instead, people will begin to see that money and material wealth can disappear in the blink of an eye. The new luxury will be based on innovation, how can we make life more effcient and better, & improve the well-being of society @ the same time!

Myr As for material, luxury equals to vanity...It will always exist!!
Luxury of the future will be the capability of being our own master, able to enjoy our life away from any influence or passion that can restrict our liberty...

Luxury will be whatever you want it to be. Luxury is all in the eye of the beholder who is trying to be unique. In todays world there are so many more ways to be unique than owning something 'big' or expensive. I feel the luxury market has met its match just like blockbuster hits have met the long tail. The next big... thing in luxury will focus on defining it. More specifically, by finding and coining the right (status/lifestyle) trigger for the right audience.Read More

yes, speaking to the material. and it'll be about quality and craftsmanship and sustainability. brand hype alone no longer ='ing luxury. high price points will reflect the high quality of materials + how they are sourced (eg vegetable-tanned leather), the artisan manufacturing (paid fairly) and the brilliant design. i ...also hope this translates to architecture+construction. we are being suffocated with 'luxury' buildings. shoddily engineered and built. an old southern saying-'we can't afford to buy cheap things. we don't have money for that' make it good. make it last. people are craving quality.Read More

Violet Panache

Violet Panache luxury will live on, but the focus will change. It will be experiential rather than things...living @ a slower pace, access to nature & fresh air, having time to smell the roses & hear the birdsong.....

Leslie In the neo-luxe (new luxury) mid-class will splurge on moments of luxurious deliciousness. Businesses will adapt and offer watered-down luxury. Think H&M - designer edgy clothes at low prices.

I think the luxury depends on how people value things. In one hand, the luxury things are material, for example, the jeweler. In the other hand, the luxury are moments and experiences with family or alone. In my opinion, the moments and the simple things in life will be the true luxuries. Moments to share and be quiet....

I think luxury is certainly here to stay...it depends on what one considers luxury. The definition of luxury too will keep getting re-defined and will evolve with everything else in context to it. Today, having no traffic on the road; a cleaner and greener environment; having large parks in the city...is a luxury for ...the people of Mumbai but again it is in context to the country and its people...maybe that is not a luxury but a necessity for some...it will most certainly be human centered!Read More
