yes. helps to show your work (more facebook, for me twitter not so much).

I don't think it's necessary. If you're successful enough you can find the illustrator you need from word of mouth. As for me, I don't generally use Facebook as a social tool anyway. I'm very selective of who I allow see my information because I feel if someone wants to hire me, they'll find me another way. (Or I'll find them!)
