How Many Words Does My Story Have?
A friend of mine, who is an Adobe Certified Instructor in
Photoshop, uses InDesign to do a lot of his writing of tutorials about
Photoshop and Lightroom. Why not? InDesign is the best word processing
application available. The other day, he called with a quick que...stion about InDesign's
word processing features. He asked, "Is there a way to determine how many words
I have written in a particular story? I'm writing a tutorial and it can't be
more that 1000 words.
I answered, "Absolutely! Click anywhere in your story with the
Type tool (T) and open the Info panel (Window>Info). At the bottom of the
panel, you'll see the exact number of words in your story. You will also see
the number of characters, lines and paragraphs listed as well. If you select
part of your story, the Info panel will list the same information for just that
selection."Read More

Lisa Text Shadow question. I am a ID n00b. I have a project converted from Quark to ID. There is one layer and everything I guess is flattened? Anyway, I try to select one text box to add a shadow to and it bolds the rest of the text on that page when that part of the page is not selected. Help!

Yamori Sayoko I still can't understand it ;( http://www.orangeyamori.com

Lisa Has anyone had a problem with the outline of the image box printing as a shadow on their InDesign documents? Does anyone know how to fix this?

UnTabbing the Tabbed Interface
Like many changes made in new versions of InDesign, the folks
at Adobe realize that not everyone is going to like the "new" way. So they give
you the opportunity to turn off a new feature and do things the old way. Tabbed
documents are no exceptio...n. Just press Command+K (Control+K on PC) and in the
Interface section of Preferences, uncheck "Open Documents as Tabs," and press OK
to apply. All document that you open going forward will no longer be in a
tabbed windowRead More

Adobe InDesign CS4 Tip - Tabbed
Document Tips
By default in InDesign CS4, documents open in a tabbed window
format. Being a kid at heart, I spent quite a bit of time playing with this new
interface feature when I first installed CS4. My exploration led to the following
tab tips. If you don't like the o...rder of the tabs, you can click and drag the
tabs to the right or left. You can also click on a tab and undock the document
so it's in a separate window by dragging it away from the tabs. Once undocked,
you can click and drag the document by its title bar back up to the tabbed
documents. When the tab section and the rest of the tabbed window is
highlighted, release your mouse and the document will rejoin the tabbed window.Read More

Relink to High-Resolution Images
To give it a try, open a few high-resolution Photoshop images
(.psd) from a particular folder and resave them in a different folder with the
same filenames but as low-resolution JPEGs (.jpg). Then open a new InDesign
document (File>New) and Place the low-res images ...on a page (File>Place).
To update the images to the high-resolution versions, simply select the Graphic
Frames with your Selection tool (V), and look under Options menu of the Links
panel and choose Relink to Folder. In the dialog window that opens, navigate to
your high-resolution folder. Then choose "Match same filename but this
extension" and type "psd" in the field. Press Choose, and all of the images
will be replaced instantly. Wow!Read More

Avik Nandy Question re: InCopy - When I unlink an assignment from a prior template in order to bring the content over verbatim into a new template I'm creating, why does it always link back to the older InCopy file when I am satisfied w/ my template and choose to assign my content for use? Is it possible to disable this activity or modify it somehow?

Felix Herrera yo yo yo I use indesign like illustrator, with the vectors and i save alot of time, the best program to use if your into typeography

Adobe InDesign CS4 - Applying A Drop Shadow

"What's so special about this? As Inline Graphics, the subhead
Frames are separate objects as well as text within the body copy Frame. This
means that if you add or delete copy before your subheads, as part of the copy
in the Frame, the subheads will move with the rest of the text."Read More
