While serving as an instructor at the Army chaplain school, I had the honor of working with the man that was to become thie first chief of the Ukrainian Military Chaplain School. He came to us at Fort Monmouth to study how a school should be run. He wasnt a clergyman but was an armor officer, and just a few years earlier, he and I had studied how... See More to kill each other. And here we were working together to initiate a chaplaincy program in a country that hadn't seen one in over 60 years. They chose a non clergyman because they were afraid that any one clergyman might tip the balance in favor of one of the main faithgroups in the Ukraine, but they were insistant that the chaplaincy be non-partisan, just as our Army tries to keep it's chaplaincy. I'm happy to have had the opportunity to have served so many great young men and women while I was a chaplain assistant, and to have done what I could to promote interfaith understanding and respect.

Each generation needs choose whether or not to fight. I think that a LOT of kids enter the military, and become conscientious objectors after the fact. There are many-including the illustrious GWB who said and continue to to believe that we became engaged in a "Holy war" against Islam. Failure to learn the lessons of history is a real problem, and so is the acceptance of "special pleading" for each equally stupid war.

Jeremy It is amazing to me that this organization (and I quote) "The Interfaith Alliance celebrates religious freedom by championing individual rights, promoting policies that protect both religion and democracy, and uniting diverse voices to challenge extremism" while in the same blog stating, in reference to Shirley Dobson... "she has no right to demand or even to expect that the White House will embrace a national event that is not inclusive of all Americans"...how can one champion individual rights, and in the same stroke of the pen seek to strike the right of an individual. It seems that you are seeking to have it both ways.

I can't seem to get off 2 email lists at work - Center for Moral Clarity and Christian Family Coalition, both of which try to tell everyone how to vote on things like this. On the good side, at least I know what nonsense they are going on about. Two organizations to watch out for in my opinion.
