I thought this Hume thing was a little awkward. I get Gaddy's argument that people who talk about others religion are obligated to do so with respect and awareness of the religion's tenets, but I still think that the Interfaith Alliance should find themselves voicing support for anybody's right to express religious opinion, even Hume.

I sort of ... See Moreexpected a measured response from IA. Something that advocated for free speech but cautioned about getting religion right when trying to discuss its nuances. Felt a little disingenuous to me to nail Hume for being passionate about his religions ability to redeem. Feel like there were some undertones that went into IA's response.

Faith based in religion is going nowhere, helping nobody and offering nothing- it becomes the "opium of the masses".

I never cease to be amazed by the extent to which persons who claim to be followers of the teachings of Jesus Christ will go to make enemies. Obviously Mr Hume skipped over all of the Bible verses addressing the arrogance and judgmental attitudes of the Pharisees.

Interfaith Alliance "Public policy should be grounded in the Constitution, not scripture" says Rev. Gaddy in response to this week's On Faith question on the role religious leaders should or shouldn't have in policymaking http://newsweek.washingtonpost.com/onfaith/panelists/c_welton_gaddy/2009/11/public_policy_should_be_grounded_in_the_constitution_not_scripture.html

Though religious people debate moral priorities and the source of their authority, such is not the responsibility constitutionally imposed on the U.S. Congress, regardless of the individual religious preferences of its members. ...

The religious right fundie "christians" aren't interested in following Reverend Gaddy's example. They are not wise, not compassionate, and certainly not Christian.

Cynthia Jean Ryan Reverend Gaddy was excellent on Olbermann. I am an atheist but I admire him for saying it as it is and as it should be. Our nation would benefit from more citizens like this gentleman.
