Fran Here is another favorite photo from the Quy Nhon, Vietnam trip this past April. One of our volunteer anesthesiologists saw that one of the little girls scheduled for cleft palate surgery was nervous, so she sat down and colored with her for a few minutes. By the time the surgeons were ready for her, she was calm and happy.

This
photo is another one of my favorites of a mother and child bonding
before surgery, also in Quang Ngai, Vietnam. Again, another portrayal
of universal emotion that transcends language barriers. This young lady
was there for surgery to release burn contractures on her neck and arm
that limited her movement, caused by a... severe burn she received as a child from an open fire. She was
afraid of the pain that she would feel after the surgery, but was excited
about the prospect of regaining movement.

Michael This photo that I took in Quang Ngai, Vietnam in January 2009 is one of my favorites. The child was there to receive a 2nd surgery on her palate, to repair a fistula. This mother and child are from a mountain tribe that doesn't speak much Vietnamese, so communication was an issue for both the team and the translators.... Nevertheless, the worry and fear portrayed on their faces and the strong bond between them were universal emotions that everyone there understood quite well, especially the other mothers. It was nice to see them reunite after the surgery.

Interplast We are now 3 days away from celebrating 40 years of healing at the 2nd annual Transformations Gala. Don't forget to post your favorite Interplast picture on our page. Simply add the photo as a wall comment with a description and share your experience with the Interplast family!

Sara Anderson This Phil Borges photo is one of my favorites. It is of Kanchana who, despite a painful burning through a violent acid attack and the prejudices toward burn victims in her country, managed to graduate as one of the top nursing students in Sri Lanka. She's a true hero.

Fran Here is my favorite picture from La Paz 2009. Our sweet little patient Imogene, a total ham for the camera, with her surgeon Tim:
