Our balmy-at-times November so far may have misled you. Things are cooling down now, though. All that's missing is the snow and wind for Iowa's winter bird feeding season to settle down around us.

For Iowa's 56,000 archery deer hunters, there is no mystery to why November is called the Hunter's Moon. With the annual rut in full swing, the best days of the entire season are currently at hand.

Iowa Department of Natural Resources wonders if there was something you'd like to do in Iowa's great outdoors but don't feel you have the skills or knowledge level to attempt that activity?

Yeah, I would enjoy learning about that as well. I also dont know a lot about trapping, its just not something I grew up with the way I did hunting and fishing so I am pretty clueless.

I don't ever feel that I don't have the knowledge to do something- I learn by doing it. I started turkey hunting by myself 3 years ago. I got some pointers from some turkey hunter friends and just went out. I bagged my 1st bird the 2nd year...by myself.
I understand some things need more instruction and guidance like rappelling (which I love too... See More!), but don't ever be afraid to just go out and try something!
Seth- Try going to a trappers convention to learn. Iowa has one every year. You could get great pointers from other trappers, some might even be willing to take you under their wing and help you get started. It has been a dying trade but it is a much needed one for wildlife management. Good luck!

Next to the shotgun, a realistic spread of duck or goose decoys is the waterfowler's most important tool. Limited only by the buyer's pocketbook, purchasing a set of decoys is as simple as a trip to your favorite sales outlet or online retailer. ...
