The Jewish Daily Forward From a Sephardic family band in Bosnia to National Heritage Fellow, Flory Jagoda is a Ladino Legend.

blogs.forward.com
In her light, lilting accent, Flory Jagoda is happy to tell the story of her life, with one caveat: although she did live through it, hers is not a tale of the Holocaust. “This one is an accordion story,” she laughed. “We have so many Holocaust stories.”

The Jewish Daily Forward Israelis and Palestinians resumed direct talks today. Is this the last chance for a two-state solution?

Officials from all sides are striving to keep expectations low for the new direct negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians, a reflection of the disillusioned mood the parties bring to the table. But the instinct to minimize the significance of the upcoming talks masks what some see as a dram...

What you say you want and what you act upon to acqure are rarely identical. When my kids were little I read them a bedtime story of the Berenstain Bears Get the Gimmes. While the Israeli Prime Minister opened with some diplomatic non-spec...ifics, the Palestinian representative began his opening statement with the Gimmes. I'm hard pressed to think of an offer that the Israeli's have received that recognized their aspiration to function as a secure Jewish majority state since Sadat's very sincere and enduring one thirty years ago.

I do not think the Palestinians are really prepared to accept a two state solution in which one of the states has a Jewish dominated government, Jewish institutions and freedom of religion and expression. As a community they do not seem to have come past their historical legacy of thinking beyond their own druthers.

Holly, sorry, not true from a scientific or spiritual start. Spiritual -- ""Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations." Jeremiah. Scientific --- that embr...yo has a different genetic code than either parent. It is a different gender from one of them. It has a unique existence, which if not interrupted, would result in on-going growth, change and development, as all things which are alive do. In fact, the ability to grow and change because of internal processes is the very definition of life. See More
