What IS the exit strategy in Afghanistan? If we don’t have one, we shouldn’t be there. Support the troops and bring them home from that hell hole. Nobody has won a war there in centuries!

Keep up the top-shelf work, Jim. Your level of competence in politics overshadows the shallow thinkers who comment on here. If they only knew the big picture! It's nice to know that we have some politicians that actually give a damn.

I commend Sen. Webb. If taxpayers from all 50 states are going to fund extended unemployment benefits, then we ALL deserve to have our friends and neighbors covered, regardless of what the unemployment rate in our particular state is - even in states with relatively low ue rates, nobody is hiring, and if you are out of work you are screwed.

@Joe: I believe we give money to these countries so we can do business with them or maintain a presence (military or otherwise). America is taking care of itself with these dollars. Isolationism is not possible in this global economy. Pull your head out.

Pat, My head is not where it should not be and our Representatives should not be so free with the dollars we must borrow and give away to other countries.

For example, we borrowed money from China, then they had a earthquake and we gave supplies and borrowed money to China. Why? Kinda stupid to borrow money from a country, pay interest on it then give those borrowed dollars back as aide to the same country we borrowed those funds from. Is that logical? Hell no!

Senator Webb's task to Burma and former President Clinton's mission to Pyongyang show that the U.S. to rely on p.r.China to solve everything, even humanitarian issues related to N. Korea and Myanmar, is just an illusion! p.r.China is actually unable... and unwilling to help U.S. but just want to gain its own interests and fake 'fame'! Wish Americans no longer be fooled and blackmailed by the Chinese Communist party!

All free states should pressure on China, Burma, and N. Korea at the same time. These three dictatorships are together! You can't achieve any progress if just focus on Burma!

& Seven Democratic Colleagues Call for Greater
Transparency,
Public Engagement in Health Insurance
Reform:

Senator Jim Webb (D-VA) joined a group of eight Democratic Senators today in
calling for greater transparency and public engagement as the health care debate
moves to the Senate floor. Blanche Lincoln (D-AR), ...Evan Bayh (D-IN), Mary
Landrieu (D-LA), Joe Lieberman (I-CT), Claire McCaskill (D-MO), Ben Nelson
(D-NE), and Mark Pryor (D-AR) also signed a letter to Majority Leader Harry
Reid, citing their constituents’ frustration and want for more
information.

Specifically, the Senators called for the legislative
text and complete budget scores from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) to be
posted on a public website for review at least 72 hours prior to the first
vote—and again, 72 hours before the vote on final passage of the bill in the
Senate. Further, the text of all amendments filed for debate should be posted
on a public website prior to commencing debate. Lastly, upon a final agreement
between the House of Representatives and the Senate, a formal conference report
detailing the agreement and complete CBO scores of the final bill should be made
available to the public for 72 hours prior to the vote on final passage of the
conference report in the Senate. http://webb.senate.gov/newsroom/record.cfm?id=318655&

Jim has been a great asset to the Senate and he is an in your face guy.
What we now need to know is how he stands on Military Veterans and Retirees that he respects so much when it comes to the Health Care Reform issue.
He needs to fight for us to keep what we have the way it is or make it better, but do not mess with it, or much to my dismay he will be looking for other employment in 2010.
