Joe Simitian The Legislature has approved a package of bills, including my Senate Bill 7X 1, to restore the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta and protect California's water supply. For details: http://senatorsimitian.com

The $11 Billion Dollar bond that goes with this will take money from California Schools- a reason the CTA opposed it. Wait 'til you see what it does to the already ravaged budget- lots of pork, when needed Delta fixes could have been much cheaper. Senator Simitian's "successful" bills will subsidize wasteful corporate Agriculture, who is not being ... Read Moreasked to make any concrete reductions in their water usage. All the concrete will come in the dams and the peripheral canal, and Northern California will pay in taxes, water, and a decimated Sacramento San Joaquin Delta. If you weren't happy with the 'status quo, wait 'til you see what comes next. Don't reelect Senator Simitian to anything, including Assembly. Of course, Schwarzenneger might just stick him on the Delta Commission, so he can personally ok the peripheral canal. For more info, www.restorethedelta.org or Sierra Club.

Here's a quote from AssemblyMember Evan's twitterfeed: "This morning's passage of water deal = less $ in state GF for edu & other services during econ depression. Expect more cuts." http://twitter.com/NMEvans Read more of her twitter feed. The Senators and Assemblymembers who shoved this through should be ashamed of how they treated transparency ... Joe Simitian Yesterday the Governor also vetoed SB 14, which would have given California the strongest renewable energy standard in the country: 33% by the year 2020. I'll continue working with the Governor's office to see if we can find common ground and get a bill signed. Stay tuned.

Joe Simitian Last night the Governor signed SB 486, which will help one million Californians safely dispose of "sharps" medical waste (needles, syringes, etc). The idea was proposed by San Carlos resident Betty Lipkin in my annual "There Oughta Be A Law" contest last year. Congratulations, Betty!

Joe Simitian Unfortunate news: Today the Governor vetoed SB 20, which would have upgraded California's landmark privacy law and helped victims of data breaches prevent identity theft. The problem is growing, however, and I'll continue working on this next year. http://bit.ly/sb-20-veto

You have SO many great common sense bills that you have authored. Oh well, he obviously hasn't figured out that vetoing great bills like this results in his 27% approval rating!

Hi Joe, How long will this be on the governor's desk? Is there time for a letter writing campaign, or is email or phone our only option?

Karen, the Governor has until October 11 to sign or veto this bill, so phone calls are best.

Just called at 916-445-2841 but you have to call M-F between 9 and 5 (but not furlough Fridays) because you need to speak to someone in person about SB19- there is no phone option to voice an opinion on this.

I've had this happen twice and the company treats it like an "FYI, just so that you know..." There is more they can do to prevent this, they are often not willing to spend the money because the rewards outweigh the risk. This sounds like more landmark legislation from Joe Simitian!
