John Boscawen The Anti-Smacking law review also states that there is NOT enough cogent data that allows a conclusion to be drawn as to whether the ACT has resulted in a safer and more secure environment for children. This was the whole point of the change in the law and the reason for the review. Yet, we are still being told that the law is working...........!?

John Boscawen is disappointed by the media's reporting on the anti-smacking law review. The report clearly states that the CEO of MSD does not have enough data available to conclude that parents are not being subject to unnessary state intervention. Most articles have failed to mention that important fact.

John Boscawen
The report to the Minister of Social Development on the review of the Anti-Smacking law is completely worthless and not worth the paper it’s written on, ACT New Zealand MP John Boscawen said today. ...

John Boscawen If you are in Wellington, head over to The Back Bencher tonight to watch myself, Chester Borrows, Annette King and Sue Bradford debate on Education, Pets and their impact on the environment and the repeal of Section 59 of the Crimes Act - the anti-smacking law. TVNZ's Backbenches starts at 9pm but get there early to grab a seat.

John Boscawen
It’s a tragedy that, just two years after rallying together in my ‘March For Democracy’ against the Government’s Electoral Finance Act, New Zealanders are now forced to ‘March For Democracy’ against a new Government that blatantly refuses to listen to the very people who elected it to office, ACT...

Does the ammendment from the bill correct this problem, so do the people not get what they want?

My Bill amends the law to allow a light smack to be used for the purpose of correction. It outlines that the use of force can be no more than trifling or transitory.

John Boscawen Don't forget about the public meeting on the anti-smacking referendum tonight in Dargaville. Look forward to seeing you there!

John Boscawen

John Boscawen The next public meeting on the Anti-Smacking debate will be held in Dargaville - Monday, October 12, 7pm at the Dargaville Town Hall, 37 Hokianga Road. This meeting has been organised by members of the public who felt so strongly about the issue they wanted to hold a meeting in their home town. So if you can make it along to support the cause, it would be great to see you there.

John Boscawen Hamilton East MP David Bennett has confirmed that he will attend the public meeting in Hamilton this Thursday night.

John Boscawen I will continue to put my Private Member's Bill on hold while I hold public meetings around the country and put pressure on the electorate MPs to change the law. National hoped to sweep this issue under the carpet when it was announced they would not support this Bill but they can't ignore 87 percent of New Zealanders. Look forward to seeing you in Tauranga.

John Boscawen My next public meeting on the anti-smacking referendum results will be held in Tauranga, October 5 2009 at the Rewood Room, Bureta Park Motor Inn, Vale Street, Otumoetai.

Sadly, I have heard some people who worked on the referendum say they believed the law will not change again. That will only be true if enough people give up. A good attendance at both meetings will help keep the issue alive.

The issue is more than about smacking. It is about who has primacy in how children are brought up and what values they are taught - thier parents or the State.
