John Boscawen The Anti-Smacking law review also states that there is NOT enough cogent data that allows a conclusion to be drawn as to whether the ACT has resulted in a safer and more secure environment for children. This was the whole point of the change in the law and the reason for the review. Yet, we are still being told that the law is working...........!?

Something that needs to be also considered is whether this new law has actually added to child abuse. This has been explained on the MacDoctor blog.

In brief someone who supports the law may end up with a child totally out of control and lose the plot and physically abuse their child... See More. If they had of been able to use reasonable physical discipline the parent would quite likely not have lost control. I am not excusing a parent losing control but accepting that it does happen and more likely to happen because of Section 59.
