I wish they could implement something into the CORE that would automatically take the updates and install them as easily as components, modules and plugins.

I've been applying it to either sites I'm building or a couple of test sites and then waiting to see if anything blows up. If everything looks oK we back up our client sites and then apply the patch. We got screwed up on a couple of sites back at Joomla 1.5.10 but were able to fix the snafus pretty quickly.

Would love a WP-style updater though.

Joomla! Joomla! 1.5.4 Released!

The Joomla! community is pleased to announce the immediate availability of Joomla! 1.5.4 [Naiki]. This is a normal maintenance release which includes a few low to moderate security issues, many bug fixes, and several very nice improvements. It has been a little over ten weeks since Joomla! 1.5.3 was released on April 24, 2008. The Development Working Group's goal is to continue to provide regular, frequent updates to the Joomla! community containing the latest bug fixes and minor enhancements.
